What's next? Banning the word slope, as in determine the slope of a line. Because that's part of algebra, and Asians are (supposedly) good at math, and slope is a deragatory term for an Asian.

You've been lied to, or you're one of the aforementioned people who are looking for something to be offended by. It doesn't and never did. Given how many posts went by before you replied, which included 3 explanations of how it's not, I'm gonna guess you're the latter.

I made no claim this was ever codified into law. It would be more of a social guideline and in the case of separating discipline from assault. judges and society may have created the difference back in the days when they would have to judge if someone went overboard on discipline. Hence the reason it is called the rule of thumb and not the law of thumb. The sources presented only argue there is no law on the books stating such things, not that people did not use a cultural rule that was simply handed down person to person.

Even by the standards presented by your sources One could see a judge using their thumb to size up the bruises on a wife or child to determine of the husband/father had crossed a societal line where allowed physical discipline gave way to assault. Unless you are going to argue that physical discipline was somehow not a thing the law would need some way to separate assault from the normally allowed physical discipline of the time.

Since most of the sources seem to argue that physical discipline was illegal back in the day I find them completely laughable and ignorant. It sure as hell went on, and unless you went way overboard you were not brought up on assault charges. Even in the early part of last century physical discipline of wives and children was very common. Even today it happens and people are not prosecuted for it. Parents have had to become a bit more creative, but switches are still used.

I am reminded of the ignorant racist low lifes of the NAACP who got wrongly indignants, stupidly so, like the ignorant wastes of space they actually are... When someone used the word "niggardly", which these poor ignorant wastes of space thought was some how related to the term "nigger".

Sadly, for these mentally enfeebled race baiters the words are not even remotely related as niggardly is from 10th century Norwegian and means greedy, ungenerous, or stingy where as the word the ignorant one trick ponies were so eager to jump to is from at least half a millenium later and probably longer as well as completely unrelated.

The moral of the story is do not allow ignorant and stupid people to define terms as they are manifestly unqualified to do so and are basically just retards who should be laughed at and ignored. Or failing that treated with endless sarcasm and mercilessly having their ignorance rubbed in their faces until they give up and recognize their inferior status.

Zed being a racist character in Pulp Fiction, so it still works.

At this point nothing surprises me. I just read about a Chicago cub fan getting banned for playing the circle game due to it involving a black reporter. People are just ignorant.

He wasn't "playing the circle game." He was flashing the white power sign to his Nazi buddies.

Just because that gesture meant one thing to you at one time in your life, doesn't mean it can never be used by anybody else for a different purpose.

Might be wrong in my interpretation of the circle game, but in my head this isn't what it looks like.

Has the circle game ever been a thing for anybody past middle school age?

Yet we're supposed to believe a bunch of grown ass men decided out of the blue to take it up again. And by sheer coincidence they all happen to have similar racial attitudes and far right political views. :bs:

Has news emerged about the identity and political / social ideology leanings of this individual? I hadn't heard any specifics. If he's really a Neo Nazi, then let him rot.

The Cubs know who he is, but (quite responsibly) have not published his identity. Apparently they tried several times to contact him so he could explain himself but got no response. An examination of his social media history left little doubt of the intention of the gesture.

True, good on them for not blasting him publically. If he doesn't want to explain himself, while not a slam-dunk regarding guilt, it does make him seem like thinks he's guilty.

Says who? The far left rags that you mistake for actual news?

I don't care that some racist used it. Doesn't mean I have stop using it nor should the rest of society have to change just because a hand gesture triggers snowflakes. I'm not saying that the Cubs don't have a right to ban whomever they want and maybe there's more to this than we know. But so far the reports are sketchy.

The circle game is the circle game. The OK signal is the OK signal. And the white power sign is the white power sign. The gestures may appear similar, but the intended message is not the same. The only reason to pretend to be confused about that is to give cover to white supremicists trying to mainstream their views. Not such a great look.

a friend who is a street outreach worker videos himself playing it with cops... usually tricks them by challenging them to rock paper scissors and then making the ring.

most of them are pretty cool with it.

yes to the circle game I guess - we didn't have a name for it but when I was in the army "grown ass men" being NCO's over 30 years old would punch each other in the arm if they looked at the circle they were making. We all fell for it time after time! Out of your peripheral vision you'd see a guy sidling up to you and glance towards him and see.....the circle! POW! You'd get a pop in the shoulder. Do not try this at home....we were trained professionals!

I never really like to "grab ass" too much. Physical foolishness can cause accidents and harm people or equipment. :nono:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_wings

"Blood wings" were a tradition when I was in the Army, but not all units did this. When I was in the Air Force we did the "wet down" when people left the unit (or the air force) to move on to another duty location. Basically you are tied up/held down and soaked down repeatedly with cold water. :shep:
Pilots would get get hit with an actual firefighters high pressure hose on the flight-line after their very last flight at that airfield. :salute:
