    1.5 billion light years?

That’s not even in our galaxy!

I would guess it’s a neutron star or something on that level.

It's some tremendous phenomenon, for sure.
Not unless they've willing to use a shit-ton of energy to send out a contentless message that will only get them a response, at best, after 3 billion years.

3 billion years? I can do that standing on my head! Or maybe like the Chinese, they play "the long game" and have unlimited patience.

If they were then after a billion and a half years they're probably extinct by now. Nothing lasts forever.

If aliens sent this to Earth 1.5 billion years ago, it would've been based on their view of Earth at that time, which would've been 1.5 billion years older still (disregarding the expansion of space)! 3 billion years ago, the Earth only had very simple microbial life, so it would've been a bit optimistic for them to expect us to receive it, let alone respond!

What if they estimated the rate at which Earth would develop technological civilization and timed their signals to arrive at that time? :soma:

That scenario is absurd on so many levels. :techman:

Considering that the rise of technological life on Earth hinges on at least one highly improbable and hugely impactful event (SWIDT?)--the asteroid collision that ended the Cretaceous--and that would've occurred 1.436 billion years after their signal was sent, I would have to rate them as unusually good prognosticators!

What if it's the result of some kind of particle experiment gone wrong? Some aliens fired up an uber version of the LHC and vaporized themselves.

I am going to be real dissapointed when they figure out it was someone's cell phone bouncing off the moon and they were ordering taco bell.
