No one will watch it, just like how no one watched the Ghostbusters remake. :)

If the lead's as hot as Jennifer Connelly was, then I approve. :bailey:

Wonder if they're still going to set it in the 1930s? :bergman:

She goes rocketing out of Mississippi.

A race/gender swap isn't going to sell it. A good movie will sell it.

Article says it will take place six years after the first movie, so I'm thinking right after the end of WWII.

Yes, because Feig's GB changed Hollywood.

There was no Ellen Ripley, no Rey, no Princess Leia, no Bride from Kill Bill, no Clarice Starling, no Sarah Conner....

...oh, yeah, that's right, we've had strong female leads for years - and nobody gave a shit.

I swear, the worthies are far more obsessed with the supposed sexism over GB than any critics are.

Were people clamoring for another rocketeer?

I remember what I think was the last one and it was a B movie no one gave a fuck about.

Would a black Jason Voorhees who drowned because privileged white teenage camp counselors were having sex instead of watching him be something? You could totally start from the beginning with his mother being an angry black woman going crazy and killing all the white privileged camp counselors. It would sort of make some sense while still being true to the original.

Never saw the original Rocketeer. Maybe I'll check it out on D+.

But the marketplace for superhero movies has changed dramatically since it came out, and of course special effects have improved dramatically. These days, an off-beat superhero film can earn hundreds of millions at the box office.

Even though it won't be a Marvel movie, I can't imagine Disney will not import some of its lessons from that universe to make The Rocketeer Returns a success financially and critically.

As for the race angle, I guess we'll see. I suppose no matter what, some people will be uncomfortable that the movie is shoving a black hero down our throats, part of how Hollywood is so woke, or however they will phrase it. I think for some people it's easier to talk about racism as it was in the 40s and 50s, with it being in-your-face and official law, as opposed to the current form where it is still widespread and systematic but not about separate water fountains and the like.

    BTW...

It took awhile, but Jane Foster Thor, and Ironheart are coming to live-action via Love And Thunder, and Wakanda Forever.

Nah, the original is actually a bitchin' good movie. Jennifer Connelly certainly doesn't hurt it any.
