That wouldn't be horrifyingly psychologically damaging to an adoptee after finding out who is biological parents are. "Yea, we had all the kids we wanted and so you got thrown to the wolves" I don't know about that kid, but I'd much rather hear that my mother was poor and couldn't afford a child so she though adoption had better odds for me to have a good life.

I'm not sure that there's all that much difference between "Yea, we had all the kids we wanted and so you got thrown to the wolves" and "We were poor and couldn't afford a child so we turned to adoption to increase the odds for the kid to have a better life."

Someone could easily read the former into the latter.

And I would imagine there's a whole spectrum of reactions by adopted kids from the confusion and disappointment you allude to, to contentment that their parents didn't choose abortion as an option, to happiness about finding out anything about their birth family to complete indifference about or resentment toward their birth family.

No doubt. However, but to Diacanu's point, married women have far more options and fewer insults than single women who choose to abort or carry a child to term to give it up for adoption. and I would say married women (and their husbands) that do so are far more evil than a single woman who simply cannot afford a child but did have a need/desire to find comfort by engaging in sex.

I saw a great thing by Ursula K LeGuin (author of the Earthsea books) saying how she had an illegal abortion when she was a teenager, and if she hadn't aborted that fetus, her three kids with her eventual husband would have never been born, because she would have been an unwed mother, and never been able to even MEET her husband.

Anti-abortionists never figure that into their math.
That when you destroy an unwed teen's life, you destroy their future kids too.
    Pro-life my fucking ass.
It's all about hatred of women.

I guess I don't see putting a child up for adoption as "evil" in pretty much any set of circumstances.

Me neither. I remember a married couple in LiveJournal's Childfree community deciding to put up their kid for adoption rather than go through with abortion--they were diligent about their birth control but it failed. I remember that community being more angry about her becoming a "breeder" than the adoption itself, because they were the goddamned worst community on LJ, bar none.

I'm on the side of people having abortions or adoptions as options no matter what their marital status. I don't see how a married couple is any more evil for giving a child up for adoption than a single parent. More than likely, they didn't have access to BC or abortion and they're poor too. Or maybe they just don't want a kid like the above couple for other reasons. And that too is no one's decision to judge.

The wanting the kid part is delusional. The "could put the kid up for adoption" is not. It is a harsh and unjustified belief, IMO, that a couple or a woman should always endure the mental, physical, emotional, financial and other hardships of pregnancy to provide their child for adoption. But I don't think it is delusional.

I'm sure once the Swattys with fetus armbands start kicking down doors, he'll get all talkative again.

    Chaos Descending is extremely pro-life.

Paladin is pretty muted about it, but he's a pro-lifer too.

that they CAN technically give the child up for adoption is not delusional, that their moralistic religious peers WOULD in fact choose every time to carry the child and give them up rather than sneak an abortion IS, IMO, delusional

It's just a theoretical hand wave to explain away what everyone knows to be the case.

IIRC both have said they're against mandatory organ donation, if so they aren't pro-life, just anti-abortion because it doesn't affect them.

Just so you know, I'm against most anything of the form "mandatory <insert positive action here>." I'm not a liberal; I can think something is a good idea without needing to force it on others.

So, speed limits, traffic lights, clothing in public, pooper scoopers, driver's licenses, inspection stickers, covid vaccines, these things get in the way of "muh freedums" right?
