Many folk reminding us that Pence caused an AIDS epidemic in his home state because he doesn't listen to scientific advice.

Ah well, America, you had a good run.

I called you a tard you dumb cunt because you can’t compare the regular flu to Covid19.

Covid19 is brand new. It’s still spreading and all indications are that it is more deadly than regular flu. Yes regular flu has killed more people but regular flu has had a multi-decade head start around the world.

Meanwhile while governments are clearly panicking you’ve got your head up your ass in denial that Covid19 is potentially going to be far worse than the flu in the long run.

    Potentially, but potentially not.

It's worth keeping this in perspective. COVID19 spread like wildfire in one of the world's most densely populated regions under hot conditions where it was taken for being the regular flu and authorities denied it's existence and delayed efforts to contain it. It may as well have been offered a giant petri dish Even there it never exceeded an R_0 of 2.5, compared to measles which has been known to hit 18 under much less optimal conditions and it's lethality really isn't that high.

We are collectively pulling out all of the stops around the world (although as usual the noises coming from Trump and co are not encouraging) and Europe at least is in a far better position now than the Chinese were months ago.

Reports that people are not developing immunity after the first infection are, I will admit, more concerning.

Trump is downplaying because they don’t want to set off a panic.

You want to see chaos? In public and the financial market?

Have Trump come out and says it’s going to get bad. Real bad.

Right now hand sanitizer is sold out everywhere near me.

You’d see stores stripped bare of everything else if Trump came out and said, “it’s going to be yuge. Many dead. So sad.”

You do realize the flu virus mutates frequently, which is why a new immunization is necessary annually.

That would require Donnie-boy to actually know what he's talking about for a change.

    yeah of course.

    Still doesn’t disprove my point.

Flu has been around for decades, if not centuries, and kills a lot of people.

Covid19 started a few months ago. It’s brand new. You can’t say flu kills more people so Covid19 is not that big of a deal.

Now in a couple of years if Covid19 still hasn’t killed large numbers than the point about the flu being deadlier would be the winning argument.

    *ahem*

The top scientists and medical professionals on the planet are working on the virus as I type this. There are many other stories of potential treatments in their infancy.

It may take a few months, but I'm optimistic we'll largely figure it out.

Of course, the vaccine deniers and conspiracy nuts will come up with some cockamamie theory and say the vaccine is just the United Nation's way to mind control vast swaths of the population, turn us all gay and vote for Democrats.

Agreed, a diligent but sober response is always going to be the way forward.

Denial and hyperbole are both very dangerous in their own ways.

It's funny how the people who question scientists are the very same people who spread their fear and misinformation through inventions (smartphones, the internet, etc.) that were created by scientists.

    Being prepared is always smart.

I keep an emergency stash of food, medical supplies, water, batteries, etc. that would get my family through at least a month.

After that, I go to Plan B... which involves me roaming the neighbourhood, eating cats, looting and shooting people. You know, just embracing the apocalypse.

Yeah, everybody needs to just calm down and avoid panicking until after I've had a chance to run over to Sam's and clear out all the Pop-Tarts and Mini Raviolis.

It’s why I feed all the outside cats. Makes them easier to catch.
but really I need sanitizer for work more than for Covid19. I work in mental health at the jail and I’ve seen plenty of shit, piss, and blood.

My former career in government required me to occasionally carry a sidearm, so I'm equipped. And trained.

But nothing even close to American-levels of second amendment paranoia.

You know they have a new design for the tinfoil hat that will protect you from this. If you can't find it that is because Obama is blocking it with his kenyan voodoo magic. What you need to do to be safe is immediately take off all your clothing and chop off your nuts with a garden ho. That will confuse the Clinton cyborgs long enough for Rush Limbaugh to get you the cure.

According to most people I am too fucking crazy to get sick, so I am just stocking up on neon hair dye because my mohawk is going to be fucking awesome. Now all I have to do is figure out how to hook the flame thrower up to the guitar.
