We could all save time (and money!) if we took those folks around back and just shot them in the head.

How many more ignorant Republicans does this virus have to kill before they figure it out?

Probably just need to depopulate the AM airwaves and they’ll figure it out.

I'm hoping some of the Idaho cray-crays will croak, but so far, they've either all recovered or gotten vaxxed on the sly... :spock:

@Order2Chaos: as someone who is really good at number crunching do you have any feel for how many of these idiots have to die before election outcomes are affected?

It’s computable in principle, but considerably harder than computing, say, how it affected the census.

Thanks I was kind of kidding, but not really. When you figure that the real margin of the last two presidential elections was a few thousand votes spread across a handful of states, I'm wondering if any of those places where the margins were razor thin for Trump might be impacted.

OTOH, I'd laugh at the irony of COVID being the thing that finally gets cops defunded because there's too few of them to go harrass black and brown people and they're forced to outsource most of the cops' shit

    I'm assuming you meant defunded.

And I won't shed much of a tear considering the reputation outfits like SPD, MPD, PPB, et al have earned, and considering how cops seem to be the more rabid anti-Covid vaxxer groups.

We had a "first responder" anti-mask/vaccine/COVID protest outside our legislature earlier this week. I hope the government took photographs of every participant and began whatever process is necessary to get the idiots removed from their jobs.

That's one way to defund the police. Thank goodness we won't have to pay for all those pensions either.

Religious anti-vaxxers in the Conway Regional Health System in Arkansas have been requesting exemptions from the vaccine, citing its development using foetal cell lines. So the system is asking them to commit to swearing off a load of other medications developed using foetal cells... like aspirin and ibuprofen:

Had an interesting discussion with some friends last night about the vaxxed vs. anti-vaxx crowd.

Data from pretty much every country is showing that fully-vaccinated individuals are far less likely to require hospitalization if they contract COVID, and far less likely to have a serious outcome.

But something that we haven't seen in these statistics, which would be interesting, is factoring in the intelligence of vaxxed persons versus the idiocy of the unvaxxed.

Think about it: people who got the vaccine clearly have some understanding of the science and are far more likely to follow health guidelines (masking, social distancing, etc.) and just generally be more careful about how they comport themselves during a pandemic. Contrast this to the willfully unvaxxed who are, more likely than not, complete fucking morons.

Anyway, I'd be curious as to how much that factors into the overall calculus.

I don't know of any objective way to measure that. It would be harder to answer that than my question about how many anti vax republicans have to be killed by Covid before it starts having an impact on elections. :clyde:

While this is quite the feel-good story, I’m skeptical of the list. Aspirin, acetaminophen, and others I think were developed long before fetal cells were used for anything.

You are correct - they have subsequently BEEN tested on foetal cell lines, but their development was not predicated on them. However, the vaccines weren't either - they could still have been tested, but we'd still be waiting on the results. Foetal cell lines are the best way of rapidly testing side effects and efficacy.

The hep A and MMR vaccines were indeed developed using those sweet, yummy lab-grown baby cells.

Be careful what you wish for ....
The far-right, anti-Muslim, anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer says she’s tested positive for the coronavirus, after suffering from severe symptoms that she wrote left her feeling like she “got hit by a bus.”
She added: “I have not taken the COVID-19 vaccine, and I don’t plan on ever taking it because it is unsafe and ineffective. Today, I immediately started a treatment of Azithromyacin and Hydroxychloroquine. I’m also taking the OrthoMune dietary supplement.” She said she’s also received the Regeneron antibody treatment used by ex-President Donald Trump.
Last year, Loomer expressed a wish that she could catch COVID to show everyone that it was no big deal. She wrote on Parler in December 2020: “I hope I get COVID just so I can prove to people I’ve had bouts of food poisoning that are more serious and life threatening than a hyped up virus. Have you ever eaten bad fajitas? That will kill you faster than COVID.”
However, in follow-up messages on her Telegram channel late Thursday, she made it clear that she was suffering severe symptoms. “Just pray for me please,” she wrote. “Can’t even begin to explain how brutal the body aches and nausea that come with COVID are. I am in so much pain.”
