DAMN! Tererun beat me to it. Day late and a dollar short again.
Most people I've seen discussing it have called it WuFlu.
I like this far better than fucking Covid-2019.
I feel dirty too.
A tweak. Yeah, uh-huh.
"We're now telling the truth" is technically a tweak.
Shame the GOP has spent so much time slamming tweakers.
Coronavirus case confirmed by CDC in San Antonio Texas.
The person infected was in quarantine so that's good.
China is spraying some type of disinfectant all over the place. They are actively rounding people up that they think are infected. It's just more proof they are lying about the severity. Their actions are the opposite of their message.
Even China says it doesn't know how many people are actually infected:
Doctors and nurses are now wearing adult diapers because they are working long shifts with no breaks while wearing their suits.
I've had to wear suits like this a few times to deal with inmates covered in feces and/or blood. Except we have googles and not the full face mask like they do here. Very big pain in the ass to get into and I can see why if you're wearing one for 8-12 hours you don't even bother to take it off. You'd have to get a new one each time.
Did you guys read what the "tweak" was?
Previously they were only reporting people who tested positive using lab test. Now they are considering anyone who has a combination of symptoms that makes a doctor say "you probably have the coronavirus" to be infected.
This will probably do two things:
1. Inflate the number of people reported. (A lot of the symptomatic people probably don't have this specific coronavirus).
2. Water down the death rate. (Since people with a cold are probably not going to die, the statistics for death by coronavirus will appear less severe).
That said, I have no reason to believe they are being more truthful, less truthful, or the same level of truthful with the actual numbers they release, but a true change in methodology is still a true change in methodology.
They’re probably running low on test kits and with something like this, it’s better to over diagnose than it is to under diagnose.
They did say it was because the test kit supply is running low.
I thought they'd switched from blood tests (which can take days to get the results) to doing CT scans.
I am not sure how a CT scan can tell anyone "Person X is infected with Virus A", but I am also not a microbiologist or a medical doctor.
Nevertheless, they said they are going to count "symptomatic" people in as having the virus even if the lab tests haven't been done to prove it.
And neither are as accurate as RT-PCR testing, hence why the "isolated it in a foreign lab" thing Shirogayne rolleyed at upthread is important - it's needed to get a clean genome sequence on the nasties so an assay can be created.
I imagine the CT scan is to see if there is any fluid in the lungs. I guess they're going with, if they've got symptoms and the scan shows fluid, let's call it Coronavirus.
They probably don’t want to do it probabilistically and subtract out the base pneumonia rate for Hubei. That would produce a more accurate count, at the expense of a discrepancy between diagnosed numbers and reported numbers which any number of people would jump on as evidence that China is hiding something.
Let's face it if we applied the same scrutiny rate to seasonal flu reported and diagnosed we'd be declaring every single Western nation was hiding something.
Or having to face some uncomfortable truths about the number of people phoning in hangovers...
There’s literally no way this can work.
The "Silver Solution"? Jim needs to take the "lead solution" (see picture) But it is good know they sell end of the world coffee so the preppers can go out on top of their game - stay alert, stay alive!
And just when you think a hat that makes you grow hair is the top gullibility contender, Jim takes it up a notch!
Not true. If it's a strong enough poison, it will definitely kill the virus. Of course, the side-effect is a little extreme, but that's life (or lack thereof). In any case, the people who pay attention to him are anxious to see God, aren't they?
it's a win-win situation when you look at it that way!
Obviously this is the perfect time to launch nukes.
