Those blue states that "enable" red states should remember that the majority of the people protecting this country come from the red states.

..and it should be remembered that more of their salaries and funding for their benefits are coming from blue states.

Pity the few options for them to get out of the small town they grew up in were the rare athletic scholarship or the military. But, hey, someone's gotta be cannon fodder to keep the Taliban from invading, right? :bergman:

Isn't that one of the examples that Zombie was using of how the Democrats were putting unnecessary stuff into the bill?

I live in rural America and we're doubling the number of confirmed cases every 48 hours. The only reason our numbers aren't higher than that is because the hospital is the only place you can get tested in this county and they are only testing people with symptoms. We have zero idea how many people are actually walking around with this. Lock. it. down.

Doctors think the number of cases is higher than what's reported.

I have never yet made a projection while at the same time hoping more fervently that I was wrong. :(

I don't think there will be any serious deviation on the date for hitting 10,000 deaths. (And the graph was right on, other than the error in the month, on the date for 1000 deaths -- today.) There may be some deviaton on the date for hitting 100,000, though, as more states put in place a serious lockdown. But that will only delay the date when the US hits 100,000 dead. It will not stave it off forever. Much as I hate it, I am forced to admit that massive incompetence from the White House, Fox News and other right-wing idiots has already made that inevitable. :(

Nevertheless, I still have high hopes that the authorities will never let the situation continue as it is long enough to hit one million deaths. However, to prevent it, serious action needs to be taken by about the time we hit 10,000 deaths. After that, the people who will die will already contaminated, and the damage is merely waiting to show up.

If even Boris Johnson finally came to his senses and realized that his country couldn't afford to just "sit it out", it may be that Trump will, too.

Donald Trump has to be one of the most massively incompetent leaders in the world today, with his talk of getting the country "up and running" by Easter. It is possible that even he is stupid enough to think that can happen without it resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands, if not millions?

Sorry if my reply wasn't clear. I understood exactly what you said, and was admitting that that was indeed the case for Italy. I had lumped both France and Italy together in the original post. So I wasn't disagreeing with you.

In mathematical terms: the strict lockdown in France has reduced the second derivative of the curve, the even stricter lockdown in Italy, which has been in effect for a week longer, has finally reduced even the first derivative, but neither one has yet succeeded in reducing the value of the curve. The French government is talking about at least six weeks of national lockdown and closed borders before we can really break the back of the infection.

Given the massive dairy consumption, I'm not at all surprised they are invoking squatters rights.

Link? There's something like 200,000+ personnel from CA and NY law enforcement alone. Seems like you are making up numbers.
