I don’t think Boeing has a presence in the city of Seattle. There are plants in bordering cities Tukwila and Renton and a engineering/tech campus in Bellevue, but don’t think there is anything in the actual city... wait at one point I remember them moving some marketing folks downtown... let me see... Hmmm, not seeing anything but I could swear I read something during the Great Recession about moving some folks to downtown.

I’m sure there will be some knock-on effects of the plant slowdowns but they won’t be as large as in years past. Boeing moved it’s HQ to Chicago over a decade ago and they simply don’t have the regional employment share of years past. Also, the market has changed, the airplane manufacturing chain is global.

A buddy works for a Boeing supplier. For years P&W have been on them to expand production but they haven’t had the space. With the Renton Boeing plant slowing production they are converting their building currently producing for it over to P&W.

Yeah, I think the 737 max fiasco is affecting suppliers' employees more. They're spread out. Boeing is not laying off anyone as they need them to restart production as soon as the thing is certified.

One of the outcomes might be they move HQ back from Chicago. That seems to have contributed to the current culture.

That would require some introspection and ownership of the problematic culture at Corporate and I just don’t see that from any megacorp in today’s economy.

Good point. I've always felt that the move out of Seattle was nothing more than corporate muscle (and ego) flexing. Same with the moving of assembly to non-union areas. Color me cynical, but people with those kind of thought processes don't strike me as willing to engage in the kind of introspection that it would take to move back. Maybe the new managers will be cut from a different cloth, but how likely is that?

But think about how much LOWER than 1.89% unemployment could be without improving the life of low wage workers! And think of the profits!

Is Volpone even around to see all this because if not you're just having an argument with yourself.

There are quite a few market fundies left. Just because they avoid this thread doesn’t mean they don’t see it. Besides, it gives ammo to the economic realists when they argue with the fundies.

It’s amazing how Volpone took a powder when it became obvious that the premise of his thread blew up in his face.

It's worth keeping the thread going. When his prophecy comes true then it will be here for him to lord it over us.

He may bookmark this post for posterity, but I suspect he won't need to use it

    What a shock.

Economies benefit from lots of turn over. That doesn't come from things trickling in from above, it comes from the bottom being vigorously stirred up.
