Or, whatever it's going to be called.
I'll change the title if/when needed.
They're shooting now, so it's time for its own thread.

    Starting with....

    Cast photo!!

Harrelson is apparently playing a rogue-ish character who is Han's criminal mentor and who introduces Han to smuggling. The character is said to be Garris Shrike, a character from an A.C. Crispin's Star Wars EU novel.

Of additional note: they're all aboard the Millennium Falcon, so we can probably gather that we'll see Han get this ship from Lando in the movie.

Yep. "Hail, Caesar" turned me around on the idea of a young Han Solo film. Ehrenreich's talented and has lots of charisma.

Boom, Michael K WIlliams has been cast in a role in the Han Solo movie. Awesome news - hell I'd be stoked if he got his own anthology movie.

So, I'm thinking they'll go the "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town", prequel rout, and he'll be an orphan in a basket on someone's doorstep, so everything including his name will have an origin.

I wonder if they'll obligatorily have The Suit in the Han Solo Star Wars Story?

And by The Suit I mean Boba Fett.

I really hope they don't have him in it, but they probably will.

In hindsight I really wish Boba Fett had looked ~exactly like this:

Then all the hoopla & yada yada yada about him NEVER would've happened!

    Back to topic:

If ROGUE ONE is the prototype for standalone SW films, then the Han Solo film will probably be a really good movie.

    hmmm...
    He's born 30BBY(ish), yes?
Means that he's partnered with Chewie , has defected from the Empire (pretty sure that part is canon), and managed to win the Falcon, all by the start of Rebels.
Bio on Wookiepedia says "orphaned at a young age". We'll probably see him start off as a street thief who gets arrested and given teh choice to serve time or the Empire.
Becomes a transport pilot, meets Lando, meets Chewie (who does him a solid).
Later meets enslaved Chewie, doesn't rescue him until things go to shit and he's technically MIA, not AWOL.
Says "fuckit" and goes AWOL with their escape shuttle.
Trades it for a stake in a card game Lando runs, after a few rounds, the Falcon's holographic pink slip is on the table.

Han wins the Falcon, he heads out to board it, Greedo's big brother Dreedo stops him, Han shoots him, and shoots him first, a bar fight breaks out, Han gets away, gets to the Falcon, jumps to light speed.
Everyone else at the bar gets arrested by Stormtroopers, including Jyn Erso, bleeding right into the first post-flashback scene of Rogue One.
    Roll credits.

I figured they'd at least TRY to make him look like a yoing Harrison Ford.

Either way, I am still curious enough about how it's going to go to be willing to give it a shot. Rogue One purchased a LOT of goodwill in my esteem.

Ehrenreich isn't a dead ringer for Ford, but he's close enough to be plausible as a younger version of Solo.

I don't think he looks anything like a younger version of Solo, and he looks even less like Solo in the on-set picture above.

But, I am willing to suspend disbelief if the story is good and he manages to at least capture his personality.

Yeah, I'm not having to suspend much disbelief from the way he looks in most pictures, the set ones look a little off though.

I wonder if that's a good idea. First, nobody but Harrison Ford is Han Solo. Nobody. Like nobody else can ever be Indiana Jones and not fake it. And I'm not even a big SW fan (more in the yea, cute category). Ford is those two characters, everybody else will always just be an imitation.

Secondly, prequel. Uhhhhh mortal danger! How suspenseful...

Given the quality of the two Disney SW movies I'm sure it will be a fun ride nevertheless. I just don't think making it a Han Solo movie is a very good idea.

I'm betting they pull a "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town". Y'know, he starts out a ginger kid, and bit by bit he turns into Santa.
Same thing, he gets a haircut, gets the trademark costume, buys the famous gun, etc, etc, until by the end, he's the Han we know.
