That's the title of series 6.
The design of the new ship is Ralph McQuarrie's Planet of the Titans ship, that he designed well before Star Wars. It's about 43 or so years old. I think that's a mistake.
That said, the registry of the ship fights into canon about the time of the Romulan War....so I'm putting money on a ENT-TOS bridging series.
I've never cared much for the McQuarrie Enterprise at all.
No, it's bloody ugly.
But I understand why they went with it...especially if it's prime universe.
At the end of the day, I don't care too much about the ship, as long as the stories are true Trek.
Just confirmed on Twitter from Bryan Fuller. IT'S PRIME UNIVERSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is an omen. Bought the Wrath of Khan BD today AND saw the TOS photo in Beyond.
Fucking omen people.
True Trek is back!!!!!!
TRUE AwesomeTrek (TM) returns Jan 2017.
Be ready JJ bitches!
Seriously though, the very name "Discovery" suggests to me that Fuller knows what Trek needs to be.
So, "STD" for short?
Hot DAMN that's one ugly ship. Also, another prequel obviously
Pretty happy they had the stones to feature a ship not called Enterprise.
Ugh... never liked that ship design. It looks somewhat clunky compared to the refit Enterprise, the Reliant, and even the Grissom.
But I'll still watch the show, the ship design isn't everything about Star Trek.
that was my thought. Seems an earlier design than 1701, and has a somewhat more military feel, as does the music
this to me looks like it's possibly drawn from the McQuarrie design but is much much better IMO
First impression: Blergh.
They're going to use a rejected ship design from the 1970s (I love McQuarrie, but yeesh), and they're going to set it in some part of the prime universe, though they're not saying where, which means we're going to get more filler history for a universe we know all about. Having just seen Star Trek Beyond last night and marveling at its new directions, lush world building, and impressive visuals, this TV series reveal was underwhelming at best. I'll most definitely give it a chance, but it doesn't make me anticipate it with glee.
From this angle is the main reason I'm saying this is a huge improvement on the McQuarrie design. the rear swept angles and the larger and not round nacelles make a big difference
Yeah, that's an ugly ship. It looks too CGI to me.
Here's an exclusive look at the bridge:
I love it. Very much.
Ugly ship, but if it fits in with the rest of the visual design I'm sure I'll stop caring.
Also cringey title, but it's the name of the ship and it's a good name for a ship so I'll let it slide.
I can live with it. It'll serve until good Star Trek makes a comeback
No way, the phaser banks and deflector are clearly movie era, I'm think TUC-TNG bridging.
Good Star Trek made a comeback this weekend.
Wondering if it might be set before TOS or the TOS movie era. The registry on the ship is NCC 1031, quite a bit lower than 1701.
The Bussard collectors also look more retro than the TOS Enterprise had as well.
Also looks like the ship is taking some cues from the JJ Universe, the bridge looks like it has windows.
Split the difference, maybe it's a pre-TOS ship with a post-TUC refit.
To me, it looks like a cross between the Enterprise and a Klingon battle cruiser. I don't see a problem with the name, really. After all, if you think about it, "Star Trek" is a kind of silly name, but because of our affection for the shows, it seems fine. We'll see how it goes.
Space bar not working?
Separate names with a comma.
