I wish that either Jerry Goldsmith's TMP theme or James Horner's TWOK theme would have just stuck as the "franchise theme" for all of Star Trek.

Yes, I know that TFF and TNG both used an arrangement of the TMP theme, but I wish it had been the same for all series and all films.

I haven't really liked any of the other Star Trek themes I've heard.

Season One was, by and large, a train wreck.

Season Two doesn't get the credit it deserves. There were some outstanding episodes... many of which are better than the oft-lauded season 3.

I think "Q Who?" is far superior to the overrated "Best of Both Worlds".

I was glad when it was used as the "Colonial National Anthem" on nu-BSG. That was pretty cool.

I don't know about tv, but with movies when there's an embargo on reviews until release, it usually means the studios know they have a crap movie on their hands.

It's a general rule, but doesn't always hold.
Just recently, they embargoed IT to a late date, and that was dumb, because it's a hit.

Voyagers theme was absolutely amazing because it was obviously a Star Trek theme while also fitting perfectly the idea of a small ship all out on its own flying through the unknown. Just a shame the series was so bad.

Not necessarily. May also be a case of somebody understanding the internet - finally.

Bad reviews with a clickbaitey headline get a LOT more clicks than good or average headlines. With a new Trek series, everyone will want to be on board. And guess what - the reviewers will cater to their readers' wishes.

Imagine how much online interest a show with a huge and highly critical, nitpicking fandom generates. The likes of Gizmodo, Verge etc would write it into the fucking ground just to generate $$$. And given the critical move to All Access, CBS cannot afford a "wrong font" shitstorm before this even premieres. Every curious free trial is a potential paying subscriber.

Or it could just suck. I'm torn on this. Because I don't think it will suck. But I'm still not feeling much or any excitement. This just reeks of 'trying too hard'.

Same, to be honest. I don't think it will necessarily be bad. But my current attitude is kind of like, "sure, it looks sort of pretty, but I just don't care anymore."

Mack's enthusiasm is contagious and I'm intrigued about the nature of the ties to TOS (other than Mudd obviously)

Reading over the interview links with the showrunner, I'm just hoping that what they end up with is a show that is what Trek would have been if it were first created in 2017 (that is, the same ideal executed with a big budget and better tech)
