Best romance was Ben & Jennifer, which is why they had to kill Jennifer.
"Yep, we can't top this for the rest of the show, we have to kill her in the pilot.".

Mar-Boi (or Boim-Mariner?) could work if it's a VGR like transwarp thingee gone wrong, maybe?
Or maybe she'll hook up with titan boimler?

DS9 at least was reasonably good at having most of its romance not be of the "main character meets somebody on an alien planet and immediately falls in love, but it doesn't matter because the episode has to end so you know we'll never see this person again" variety (the crapfest that was "Meridian," a.k.a. "Brigadoon in Space," notwithstanding).

There was only so invested you could get in McCoy and the Yonadan priestess, Kirk and Edith Keeler, Kirk and Rayna Kapec, Picard and Vash, Picard and Nella Daren, Riker and the woman from the androgynous planet, etc.

I honestly could take or leave Kira/Odo, Worf/Jadzia, and Ezri/Bashir, but at least they weren't absurd one-episode whirlwinds. Sisko/Kasidy is probably one of my favorite romantic relationships in Trek (along with Paris/Torres).

I think @Raoul the Red Shirt mostly nailed it:

Trek romances are shallow at best and cringe-worthy at worst, which is fairly inexcusable for a franchise that has been around for over 50 years.

Sisko/Kassidy is the most natural because Ben isn't even that interested in dating until Jake sets him up with her and then, despite his "my SON thinks we might work out!" reaction he finds himself into her anyway.

I liked this recent episode. I like that when they go to a planet we see the name of the planet. I always like that in Sci-Fi, it jut feels right. All of the jokes landed, especially the doctor wanting to sit in a box. This show gives me the Trek I don't get from Discovery.

When your comedy cartoon Trek show is doing better than your live action "real" Star Trek, you damn right I'm going to bring it up as much as possible. Discovery has earned the scorn they get.

It didn't make the most sense that Kira would go from dating the guy who was almost the Kai, to the First Minister of Bajor, to... her weird friend that's also a puddle of goo. Unless she was looking at it as dating a Founder and thus one of the heads of the Dominion, it doesn't really track with her past romantic choices. (Also, what was up with the most important men in the sector falling for Kira? Is she the Sookie Stackhouse of Bajor?)

I mean ... Kira's pretty important too. She's Bajor's primary liaison to Starfleet, second-in-command of a military base that's strategically important to Bajor even if (at the time she's dating Bareil) it doesn't have the strategic importance to the entire quadrant that it gains later, and she's the Bajoran who works most closely with the Emissary.

Don't insult Kira like that :brood:

That said, I guess with that reasoning I can understand people thinking Odo is a downgrade, but considering all the incels in Trekdom, you'd think they'd be happy that the weirdo freak got the hot girl

Uh, I think it's pretty obvious how a shapeshifter was able to get the hot chick. Not only can dude look like anyone she wants (when he eventually figures out how to do that), but he can sprout all kinds of accouterments for her pleasure. The real question is: Why wasn't everyone on DS9 trying to get into Odo's pants?

It helps that he's standoffish enough to give off "don't even think about it" vibes that you'd have to be ... well, Lwaxana Troi to ignore.

The incel Youtubers pay him for every mention.
    Oh, they don't?
Well, maybe enough mentions add up, they send him a plaque.
    Oh, they don't?
A gift certificate to the Bunny Ranch?
    No?
Then I dunno what he gets out of it.

    Meh, that's basic holosuite stuff.

A more realistic relationship would have involved Kira being more like Yar, traumatized by her horrible past and more comfortable around that guy that's not technically a "real" man. I don't get why Odo has uncontrollable romantic feelings towards any solid, but it could just be him wanting what he thinks he's supposed to want. :clyde:

or maybe, hear me out, every species has human like emotions and they might find it weird if your girlfriend wants you to morph into another guy you had a thing with. Therefore Odo’s like, fuck that shit, like me for me or fuck off. Crazy concept I know.

Felt like this current episode was made specifically at the "Beckett Mariner is a Mary Sue" crowd  for such a B level plot, they went hard on the animation, though.

I'm loving T'Ana, who is basically Bones but a furry cat. Had genuinely forgotten she and Shax were getting it on and I wish I did not know.

Okay, I’ll bite: Can a holosuite extend a tendril to give your goody bits a random squeeze in the middle of one of those interminable boring meetings that should have been an email? :bailey:

And now, every such meeting I'm in I'll be wondering what the men are doing with their hands under the table.

    Thanks. (that's sarcasm btw).
