Is anyone holding up the writing on NuTrek as one of it's stronger characteristics, though?

I won't begrudge fans who enjoy the packaging of the product overall. But the writing has been consistently weak.

Though it's not like Star Trek has ever been known for its super-realistic dialogue.

Mind you, @Fisherman's Worf is from California and given the stop-and-go type traffic in most major cities--which now includes Sacramento, to my surprise the last time I drove on I-80 two years ago! :wtf: --stick shift is not advised in most cities here.

Hell, MINI is still the only brand with manual transmissions and even they stuck an auto transmission on their hot hatch version of the Cooper because they were losing too many sales in Los Angeles.

I like controlling the gear shifts. Gives you a real feeling of being in touch with what the engine is doing. Most cars in the UK are still manual transmission unless they are diesel or electric/hybrid. I've driven automatics but my left hand and foot are constantly starved of things to do - much easier to drift off if tired... we didn't dare use cruise control in the States for that reason, plus your roads are devoid of curves for mile after fucking mile. Mind-numbing.

If you know how to drive manual transmission properly, you can actually save a lot of wear and tear on your vehicle.

My relationship to cars is like my relationship to horses.
They make it known from the outset they hate me, so I return the sentiment.

My MINI comes with runflat tires.

No one drifts off in one of those with that cabin noise.

I get the "push a button, it does it" attitude. It's TNG versus TOS. You can tap the LCARS to activate the warp drive, or you can push a lever like Sulu. And on the older ships, you can feel if something's wrong by the vibration in the deck plating. But you don't have a holodeck or a bar or an arboretum.

Electric will be my next car, and those don't NEED gears. So I'll have to find something else for my left limbs to do.

    Ladies?

The Cytherians were careful enough to wipe Barclays technical understanding of the things he did while under their influence, that's why he didn't teach Voyager how to use it to get home in minutes. Ransom probably got sent to that debriefing facility/day spa that everyone possessed by alien consciousnesses gets to visit. Most of the fancier technology that's never seen again comes with some sort of explanation as to why it won't become commonplace, like how Voyager's warp 10 experiments were only possible for a limited time because they found some extremely rare higher quality dilithium.

The Admonition and the apocalyptic knowledge it contained are still out there, easily accessible, and they're not going away.

Sure, I can headcanon it and tell myself that Starfleet or the Zhat Vash made sure that the Admonition itself was destroyed and the knowledge is erased from the mind of everyone who's accessed it. I could even go so far as to assume that the only surviving comprehensible copy of those instructions was on Discovery's sphere data which is why Control needed it so badly, but I shouldn't have to write my own resolutions like that. :clyde:

EDIT: Or even if not-Soji had mentioned it was strictly a one time only offer when she was explaining the true meaning of the vision.

Oh, and Control is actually a fairly shitty AI relatively speaking, so when it travelled back in time and tried approaching the Admonition in a purely mechanical form (like an exocomp or whatever) it didn't trigger the message, and when it tried approaching while possessing an organic or partially organic being the message was incomprehensible like it always is to organics. So it went after the sphere data because it had no other options.

This shouldn't be my job to explain these things to myself.

I'm sure there are, and I am grateful for the offer. But my bread is, sadly, buttered on one side only.

I envy those who can enjoy dual-buttering. And mayhap even jam one side and marmalade the other.

    Oh, the delights.

    But man delights not me.

No, nor woman neither, but that's only because they won't. :(

    You mean this?
Okay, so since Sean Young denied being in Blade Runner 2049, yet she's in the movie, are you going to hate the movie for that reason? What's dickish about that? The surviving members of The Doors knew that Jim Morrison died in the 70s, yet they were more than happy to spin a tail that indicated Jim was still alive.

Yes. The tone of the way he answers questions just comes off like he doesn’t want to actually answer questions and he doesn’t want to give the fans any answers. Maybe it’s just me.

Guinan's shown to have the ability to sense when a timeline is "wrong," she's got a non-linear relationship with Picard, she's got a mysterious past with Q that was never elaborated on, she's got a connection to the Borg since they assimilated her homeworld... is it really that hard to imagine how she probably fits into the story after seeing the trailer?

    Spoiler alert: It's just you.

Every answer he gives is a straightforward and direct answer to the question asked within the framework of he isn't willing to spoil the still-filming show beyond a point (and/or he may not genuinely know some things).

You're like a fanboy version of the picky restaurant customer who complains about how the food is so bad "and such small portions!"

Also, it is presumably the case that Guinan is alive in the 21st Century and conceivably could be on Earth. We know from Time's Arrow that she has been around since the late 1800s and was on Earth at that point. It could easily be the case that an older version of Guinan than the TA one but technically younger one than we saw on TNG is back on Earth for the events of Picard S2. The one wrinkle, so to speak, is that 2021 Whoopi is obviously noticeably older than 1990s Whoopi when she last played the character. But they could just handwave it away, or this could be just all idle fan speculation.

We all know Guinan's a Time Lord -- a sensible one who prefers helping people in the background over actively getting hands dirty like the Doctor does.
