Black Diamond, eh? It's going to be a spy thriller in space as a Rey goes all James Bond, with a long ski lightsabre duel action sequence against Kylo Ren down a mountain.

JJ has the script (so I'm assuming it was approved) and shooting starts in July.

Have we had confirmation that this one is intended to "close out" the current story in the same way that RoTJ did? There would seem to be a hell of a lot of work for the script to do given where The Last Jedi left things.

    It kind of has to.
There doesn't seem to be an "Episode 10", on the docket, they're going to jump right into the Rian Johnson and Benioff & Weiss trilogies, and neither of those are going to be about Skywalkers.

I wonder what the actual title of Episode IX will be? I hope Luke's Force Ghost is in alot of Episode IX.

My money is on a Kenobi, with her grandmother being shown in the Obi-wan standalone.

Plot Twist: Rey is a Darth Plagueis clone that doesn't know she's a clone. Yet.

Force Awakens was mediocre, Last Jedi was shit, and IX will be stale bung nuggets.

I just watched TPM again and loved it. Even the prequels have more charm than the sequel trilogy.

Yes, the prequels, for all their flaws, have a certain charm. And Lucas has to be given credit for taking a chance on doing something different with them. He took some narrative risks that could have been much better had he hired a competent scriptwriter to flesh out and polish his ideas. And the aesthetic of the prequels is different from the OT.

Even if she is, so what?

When they wrote the scripts for these new films, they forgot to answer the most important questions: why do we need these films? What story are we trying to tell with them? Why do these films need to exist?

How is this trilogy going to end? With the destruction of the First Order? That seems highly unlikely. The Resistance has been crushed, all that's left are Leia and a few support personnel. The FO are somehow able to come up with an endless supply of ships and massive weaponry, even after their planet-sized starkiller base was destroyed. The Jedi have died out. There's nobody left to train the force-sensitive kids still out there. Luke is dead. Han is dead. Finn is a bumbling idiot.

The Resistance has been crushed, all that's left are Leia and a few support personnel . . . and hope.

There's still space for the outlying colonies or whatever to be rallied to the cause. And we're used to federated nations where the central gov't controls the vast bulk of the armed forces, but I've seen nothing saying the New Republic isn't more of a confederacy where individual star systems or sectors are responsible for most of their own defense. So there's potentially quite a lot of fleet out there to be rallied by Rey's example to be unified behind, say, whatsisname Brash Pilot who learned a life lesson in TLJ. Kylo is, if not fully turned back from the Dark Side, persuaded to undermine the First Order at a critical moment while the rest of our heroes assault a critical point . . . or maybe Kylo and Rey combine philosophies and join to form a new order, one that takes the best of the Jedi while agreeing with the Sith that it's okay to have emotions, and I dunno what happens next. Definitely an uphill climb, but not insurmountable.

It's been reported that Disney regrets killing too many characters in The Last Jedi but which ones they regret hasn't been announced.

Admiral Ackbar, who was killed in an exceptionally offhand way.

Vice Admiral Holdo, though at least she got a heroic ending.

Paige, the bomber pilot and Rose's sister. Oh, why oh why couldn't we have sacrificed Rose instead? :sob:

But why aren't they part of the cause to begin with? After suffering through the oppression of The Empire, why would any colony or system willingly support the First Order?

The Republic is governed from Coruscant, that's where the Senate is, that's where the Jedi Temple and Jedi Archives are located. Ummmm......what's happened to The Republic? Why isn't The Republic supporting and arming The Resistance?

What does victory look like for these characters? For Leia and Poe, I suppose it would be the crippling or destruction of the First Order. But unless there's some military force out there willing to help them, I don't see how they prevail.

What about Rey? Victory for her means....... Who the hell knows? Killing Kylo? Creating a new Force User training academy, with or without Kylo? Finding out who her parents are? Finding out why Luke's lightsaber called out to her?

This story is so fucked up, I honestly don't think there's any wrapping things up with any real satisfaction.

Kylo Ren is the worst villain in the history of movies. The OT had its cheesy moments and ROTJ is clearly the weakest of the three, but once Vader brings Luke before the Emperor, shit gets real. Even in the PT you know it's going down when Obi-Wan and Anakin fight. What's going to be the climactic moment in the sequel trilogy? Kylo Ren dissolving the First Order because everyone makes fun of him behind his back?
