The Vice Chair of the Tarrant County Republicans faced a vote to remove him from his position on account of his Muslim faith. 74% voted to keep him.

A US citizen for ten years, a surgeon, and a loyal Republican. Not good enough to convince 26% of the yokels in that town that he's not a terrorist.

Good luck being in that company, bruh. :jayzus:

Wow there might be some hope for Texas yet. Specifically, 74% of Tarrant County Republicans.

The sad part is that Tarrant County isn’t some shithole in the middle of nowhere. It’s part of the Dallas Metroplex (Ft. Worth is located there) and has 2m people. EVEN THERE a full 1/4 of Republicans are unabashed racist pieces of shit.

I almost feel sorry for the guy, but i have to imagine he's got to be a piece of shit to still embrace the Republican party after seeing firsthand the ugly side of the GOP.

That makes sense that there is a surprisingly low percentage of conservative republican assholes in an urban or suburban area of Texass. I thought 25 percent was a really good number for some little shit Texass town, but in the Dallas area it makes more sense. You have to remember the republican population is lower there. I would say if you took NY reps near the city you would find a similar number, or even higher, that did not want a Muslim leading the party. When I worked for TWC covering areas in the NYC commute the employees who had a notable middle eastern accent would take daily calls where they would get cursed out by customers. Not to mention there was a lot o conservative Jewish republicans who were pro isreal in that area.

It was really sad how the area turned very quickly against middle east and Indian people after 9/11.

Islam is a religion Not a race. Thus voting against someone solely because they are Muslim is not an example of racism.

You’re right, it’s bigotry. There is a difference, still a moronic kind of hate based on irrational reasons though.

You consider it "hate" to prefer your leaders be as much like you as possible? Sounds like simple common sense to me.

No, I’m not afraid of what I don’t understand. Muslim Americans are just like anyone other American, they’re busting their ass to make a better life for themselves and their loved ones. I’m in rural Georgia and there are a few in my area, they’re good people. Fear has kept you from potentially knowing some wonderful people. I feel sorry for you.

(You're correct, strictly speaking, but colloquially, religious prejudice does fall under the racism umbrella, irrespective [hi, Tamar!] of what terms should be used.)

A Muslim signing up with the Texas GOP makes about as much sense as Ben Carson joining the Ku Klux Klan.

so why can't a Muslim also be a conservative/Republican? The man is first an AMERICAN, then a muslim. Let's say you are a conservative atheist (there are millions of them BTW) for argument's sake. You wouldn't give a rat's ass if he was christian or muslim or hindu or whatever.

BTW there are plenty of Democrats that hate the piss out of/mistrust muslims too.

Depending upon what metrics you use, I have more in common with Obama than I do John McCain. Use other metrics, and McCain beats Obama. YMMV.

Fear has absolutely nothing to do with it. There simply are not many Muslims, Jews, or Catholics in the areas I've lived in. And no, I did not choose to live where I have due to the religious or ethnicity of the residents. It has been almost exclusively due to proximity to jobs.
