Schools that would hire me. Before that retail establishments that would hire me. Those caveats of course narrows the range of options considerably.

I believe he was appointed. Some positions are by appointment, some by election.

I see, so he could be significantly unpopular but still gain the post given support from the right people?

Not many muslims where I live either. But I knew quite a few muslims in the military, mostly from Africa. West Africa is pretty interesting - French is the dominant language and Islam is the dominant religion. And forget that "blacks suck at swimming" myth! Blacks living on the coast swim for recreation & play volley ball on the beach just like Barbie & Ken!

possibly - or maybe they downplayed the muslim angle and the muslim haters found out too late. Regardless haters gonna hate as they say!

Seems an odd thing to slip under the radar. Still, the attempt fell very flat which is a definite silver lining :)

I suspect the entire thing about "blacks suck at swimming" comes from 20th century American south when public swimming pools were often built but that blacks were barred from and whites used the excuse that "black people don't want to swim".

I think it's the other way around - racism falls under bigotry. Bigotry being a general topic, and racism being more specific.
    i.e.:
    Bigotry
    • Racism
    • Sexism
    • Ageism
    • Religious intolerance
    • Teh Baba
    • etc...

I'm sure there weren't a lot of laws prohibiting blacks from swimming pools in Algeria and Morocco like there were in America not that long ago. :marathon:

Although, if anyone could find a way to accidentally stumble into a Klan meeting, and end up with a hood on through a series of slapstick mix-ups, it would be Ben Carson.

It's harder to argue against a nuanced position, so Leftforge finds it easier to stereotype anyone that doesn't fit their black/white good/evil us/them paradigm. :async:

You could also describe it as three levels -- prejudice being the broadest, racial prejudice being a subset of that, and racism being a subset of racial prejudice (where racial prejudice can simply be a matter of one person's attitudes and can be directed at anyone, by anyone, while racism is a specific subset of racial prejudice in which the prejudice is backed up by power structures and the capacity to do harm).

Tarrant county is far more conservative than neighboring Dallas county.

I take the guy being reelected as a positive sign that even a place like that isn’t completely insane.

Absolutely. I mean, imagine arguing against someone who was pointing to the global evidence in favour of restrictive gun control but missing the bits where they concede the current impracticality. You might be tempted to make the case against a strawman where they were calling for a ban.

Not at all, I didn't personalise it as having been you. It was merely used as an example to support your thesis that nuance is rarely reflected well in partisan confrontations.

That is OK, I don't want to see a Chihuahua with @Dinner 's face. I will just take your word for it and leave that proof to the family courts deciding on child support.

Not to mention the person @Dayton3 has been dating throughout his 90 day ban. They had a lot of good times together, and Dayton is getting a divorce from his wife so he can marry dog ass dinner.
