    Fine by me.
If Paramount wants to throw away the past, let Seth have it.
Better it be sprinkled with nostalgia sugar by a fanboy than landfilled.

I mean, OK - Orville is a TNG/DS9/VOY spinoff in all but name, but whining about ex-Trek actors showing up on it is a bit daft. Sirtis and Picardo (and Billingsley) all showed up on Stargate SG-1/Pegasus and no-one batted an eyelid.

So, seen a lot of posts about Alara at TBBS, with rumours she's leaving. Any scoop? There's the distinct lack of her in the trailer EXCEPT the "I just wanted to make you proud" scene and the "gun to the head" one, but little of her with other characters. AND the first ep of S2 is rumoured to be the filmed but not used last ep of S1...

    POSSIBLE SPOILERS

From what I have been following, Alara will be heading home to Xelaya because she is losing her strength living in normal gravity. A new actress (Jessica Szohr) will be playing the role of Talla, her replacement who is also Xelayan.

This happens very early in the season, so whether Talla will end up being permanent crew or just a Pulaski, I am not sure, but Alara is definitely leaving the show.

My understanding is that the actress who plays Alara got offered a role on another series while it was uncertain if the Orville was going to be picked up for a second season. The rumors I've read are that it's planned for her character to have the occasional recurring role (an ep or two a season) while the other show is still running. If that other show ends before Orville, she'd be brought back full time (assuming, of course, she and Seth are still chewing on one another).

If this happens to all Xelayans, why replace her with another?

This may account for the "struggling with the gun" scene in the trailer - either her attacker is also super-strong or she's weakening.

But this shouldn't be a big deal anyway - they could just have her quarters set for Xelayan gravity and fit a multigym, FFS. I can understand the actress needing to move on, but think they can come up with a better reason in-show to explain the departure.

Wasn't there something about her family having a genetic medical condition? I thought there was. If that's true, then replacing her with someone from her home planet wouldn't automatically mean that they both end up with the same condition.

Can't see anything about that on the Orville Wiki. The only thing mentioned out of the ordinary is that she's considered of below-average intellect for a Xelayan, but there's no suggestion that's due to genetic impairment.

Nice episode, a little bit of a reintroduction and character development.

Not only that, but they've even put their name above the title logo in the show's intro.

There's more underneath this episode than just relationships. This episode has seeded the whole season, I just know it.

So....is anyone kinda miffed we didn't see Bortus actually pee?
I mean, it's not a kink for me, but they built up to it so long, I thought there'd be a joke to it, like a whole waterfall comes out of him or something.

I think that's the best part about it. There's this whole grand ceremony for something that ends up being just as mundane as any other person going to the bathroom. I mean, come on, Spock tried to murder Kirk in an ancient bloody ritual taking place on an ancient world by an advanced civilization, all because he couldn't get laid, and he has to do that every 7 goddamn years or find someone who's finally willing to bend to his logic cannon.

I was expecting major sound effects and, I don't know, green steam bellowing out of the canyon while the crew looked on in disgust.

And since this is Seth MacFarlane, I was expecting it to be funny for about 10 seconds but last for about a minute and a half.

    Super-meh.

    an overlong half-hour office sit-come role-playing as a sci-fi show.

    Boring. In virtually every respect.

I didn't find it very interesting either.

The relationships were the worst part of 90s Star Trek and this episode is about as bad as some of those cringey TNG/DS9/VOY episodes.

I don't see why every character has to be paired up with someone as if they were all still in high school.

But visually the show looks very nice. I like the sets and the uniforms and I like the mix of aliens on board.

Was that Jason Alexander as the bartender?
