Wow, I'm glad that worked out for him!
The orchestra in the shuttle bay was great, but I thought there was going to be some sort of light display some sort of Star explosion or something that would be timed with the music.
I did like the 'lets flip the tables' gag.
It's nice to know that Seth McFarlane can do more subtle humor.
Family Guy is often funny but I don't care about any of the characters on that show.
You can catch all the funny bits on Youtube and skip the rest.
'The Orville' on the other hand has likeable characters that actually grow over time.
But the show mostly just makes me miss the older Trek shows like TOS/TNG/DS9.
Still fun to watch... for now.
Last week’s DSC episode made me long for TOS.
"We're just wondering when you joined the fire department."
The orchestra was cool. Yeah it was done far better than TNG ever did anything.
I think it would be cool if Issac showed up in the simulation body all the time. I'm sure his people have technology that can do it.
easily my favorite episode of the series. A minimum of childish gags, some clever subtle humor (like the, "be careful what you say to Bortus" bit and the table) a really enjoyable story fleshed out with wonderful bits like the orchestra and the use of "Singing in the Rain"
Just as well done as it could hope to be
(still not comparing them to Disco, entirely different shows in important ways, but if they keep this sort of thing up I'll be enjoying them both equally without worrying about t)
Also - dude who played human Issac was just SO good at the "rational android" acting. As Zombie said, I'd like it a lot if he had a "portable emitter" so that he could assume that form at all times when on the ship save when the plot demanded his mechanical abilities.
ETA: so it was, as I hoped, the same actor who voices Issac all the time and not a voice-over thing.
Actually I just remembered....
They do have portable emitters. Issac let Mercer borrow a couple when they went on that undercover Krill mission.
Edit: No the Union has them. I just looked up the episode. Issac didn't give them to the Union for the mission.
I've always liked it when aliens take human figures of speech literally. My wife even laughed at the "let's flip the tables" thing.
Also the somewhat juvenile humor was actually appropriate.
"There was no equipment malfunction"
"Well you don't have to brag about it".
Something odd about when I watched the show though. About 10 seconds of dialogue where Mercer was talking to he helmsman about being careful what you say to Bortus, repeated as though there was some kind of time loop. I wondered if that was an intentional part of the episode and would be dealt with later but it wasn't so I wondered if it was a problem with my DVR.
It's probably your DVR, I didn't see that.
I really liked this episode for numerous reasons.
This is more like the first-season Orville that I enjoyed.
I'll admit to having a thing for Penny Johnson since her DS9 days (my wife and I argued about having Kasidy be the middle name for our second daughter--I lost ) but I like her a lot in this role. A really nice touch is having her hair highlighted with green to match her professional discipline as well as having her "civilian" clothes also be mostly green.
Yeah, Penny Johnson turns me on for sure.
When I realized there was no episode this week:
In my opinion "The Orville" has utilized their holodeck type technology much more creatively and interestingly than the various Star Trek series ever did.
From Bortus using it for pornography to the early episode where LaMarr, Malloy , and Mercer are in it riding horses for what looks like a conventional western style adventure only to find that Mallow has programed it so the big showdown is actually a dance competition.
We know Quark had all sorts of pornographic holoprograms, but the audience barely got to see any. Shit, I’d be in there every day.
Some behind the scenes stuff, hints at upcoming episodes, and deleted scenes. https://trekmovie.com/2019/02/09/th...-mark-jackson-teases-kaylon-reveals-and-more/
Did you try the FoxNow app?
That’s what’s i Do.
Episode 7, another instance of Klyden being a conservative douche. How much longer is his marriage to Bortus going to last?
Did anybody spot Bruce Willis? https://comicbook.com/startrek/2019/02/15/the-orville-bruce-willis-cameo-katrudian-flower/
Holy shit! That went right by me!
Both of the Treks are firing on all cylinders this week!
I think Bortus is going to stab Klyden.
Bortus is highly conflicted about his society. He knows what happened to his kid was wrong and he knows what just happened to Locar was wrong. He also knows he can't express these things out loud. He might catch a knife when he's sleeping. Klyden is quite the bastard. Talla ripped him a new one. Perhaps Bortus told Klyden to go thank her for freeing Klyden because he knew that Talla would do it?
And Mercer's comment on the Moclan alliance may foreshadow some conflict between the Union and the Moclans. There's going to have to be a conflict much like between the Klingons and the Federation.
I hope that they don't get Kelly and Ed back together. That might ruin the show.
I think there would be lots of potential with Klyden gone and Bortus ultimately having to live as an exile aboard Orville. Much like Worf on TNG after his discommendaton by the Klingons.
Though Bortus's background does already speak volumes about his psyche. His old boyfriend is attracted to females. His current husband was born a female. Makes sense that there is something going on beneath the surface there.
Spotted a continuity error in the first few minutes. Kelly and her squeeze are talking, and right as they start to fight, you can see a yellow 1941 Hupmobile Skylark (it's literally a reworked Cord 810, one of the prettiest cars ever made) behind Kelly. When they cut to her squeeze, the car's no where to be seen, though you should still be able to see it.
I forget which one it was, but one of the first episodes this season had a terrible jump cut in it. Medium shot shows Bortus and family on the bridge and they turn to leave. Cut to a wide shot and they’re back where they started...then they turn to leave. Really sloppy.
Separate names with a comma.
