How the hell did I only find this now?
"To not like it would make them dickheads."
I like The Onion and all that, and satire is my favorite form of humor. But that movie was dumber than a sack of hammers.
Yabbut you can't deny that it did wonders to inject much needed energy into a franchise we all thought was pretty much dead, so....
The only joke le that landed was the Obama one.
Okay, that was funny.
weren't we supposed to get a tarantino trek, or was that just a COVID isolation fever dream?
To my mind there are 3 peaks in the franchise's history; the 70's pop culture explosion, TNG's run and the '09 movie.
The last high point was the shortest lived. Like it or not (I liked it), it was just the adrenaline shot comatose Trek needed.
There has been no 4th peak.
It was the right movie at the right time for the franchise. But Trek's long-term appeal cannot rely solely on dumb and fun - hence why the current era is widely maligned by fans who are looking for more than a 2nd rate CW-type production.
It was tossed around but nothing serious came of it. But then again, projects can stay in production limbo for ages, so who knows.
Nah, it's dead.
I thought I bumped that thread.
The screenwriter leaked that it was supposed to be an R rated "a piece of the action" with time travel to the 30's instead of a parallel planet.
Well, shit, if Tarantino can turn Trek into a fucking gangster movie, I can write a Barbie movie that gets taken over by Transformers, and Barbie dies in the 2nd act.
I mean, why have anything be anything?
As for "peaks" for me '87-'99 was the golden age.
'09-present is the silver age.
