Interesting and better context. Still, he’s wrong as far as investigations go. If there is immunity to investigation, on what basis other than blatant failure to enforce the law can Congress ever impeach? Crimes directly against a member of Congress?

I think that when he's talking about investigations he's talking about investigations by people other than Congress. Like, say if the attorney general of New York wanted to investigate President Trump for a land deal, civil or criminal, that investigation would have to be put off until Trump was no longer president.

Obviously, you need to investigate in order to lay the foundation for an impeachment. If the President is impeached he has a trial in the Senate. An investigation would have to be done. You have to gather evidence for the impeachment and the trial but that investigation is done by Congress.

File these under "bad", with a side dish of "ugly" with a garnish of "doesn't understand technology" for the first one.

^Note that one of the judges who went the other way on the net neutrality rule was shortlisted for Scalia's vacancy.

Editorial folks at NYT can't wrap their head around the reality that they could pack the Sunday edition front to back with long think pieces about why Trump should be named Emperor and Republicans would still be immovably convinced that the paper is in the tank for Democrats.

They should stop groveling for a prize they can never win.

Oh boo fucking hoo, you lost get over it.

And one NYT editorial written by one rational-talking Democrat does *not* suddenly transform the NYT into a credible source, nor its editorial pages something other than full-blown Democrat partisan ideology for the most part. It simply confirms expectations that there *are* in fact rational liberals out there, quietly talking, they're just very scarce visitors on the tv or Wf.

And citing the article where SCOTUS nominee Kav explained why any POTUS shouldn't be subjected to partisan-lawsuits for the good of the country - but specifically stated that it's the legislative function to legislate - as a *negative*, really misses the point by a large margin, and is a foolish even simpleminded analysis unless viewed in the vacuum of what must be a nightmare of waking every day to a President Trump.

This is a pretty good balance. Roberts becomes the swing vote with the court's ideological center being moved just a bit to the right.

Kavanaugh isn't your worst nightmare, liberals.

Whoever replaces Ginsburg is going to be, because that will almost certainly tip the balance quite hard to the right.

Rumours going around that Kennedy only agreed to retire after Trump agreed to select Kavanaugh as his replacement.

And of course, there's still the sketchiness surrounding Kennedy's son running one of the few banks that would loan Trump money, the same bank that was laundering money for Russia...

Word is that assuming President Trump gets to appoint a third Supreme Court Justice that Bennett is up next. Especially if its Ginsburg who totters off.

    Probably.

I think she was holding on for HRC to appoint her replacement. Now I think she's holding on for the Senate to change hands.

it's all relative though. Before Gorsuch was seated, Kennedy was rated the 10th most conservative justice since WW2 - and he was serving with 4 of the top 9 - 5 of the top 10 after Gorsuch was seated.

    Among those 5....is Roberts.

which was not your position re Garland in 2016 - was it?

(i.e. the election of 2012 had - or was supposed to have - consequences)

That said, yes elections have consequences - but it is still worth noting that five of nine seats will be filled by presidents who did not get the most votes in their election and confirmed largely by a senate controlled by a party that routinely fails to get the most overall votes in any given election collectively.

We basically already live in a minority rule country.

I'm not mad at the conservatives.
They can't help what they are.
Any more than a grizzly bear, or a wasp, or a termite.

I am mad at the granola-hippie liberals that couldn't hold their nose for Hillary even when presented with the threat to women and the LGBT community via supreme court picks.
I beat them over the head with it, and they plugged their ears and hummed.
I'd ask them how noble and heroic they feel now, but they've all run and hid.
I can't even detect their breathing or heartbeats anymore.
    They've become fucking yogis.
