among other things that the shutdown is affecting... housing inspections for HUD which are required for all rental properties at least yearly likewise infrastructure spending under HUD for needed repairs (hope your furnace doesn't go out, yo!) IRS W-2 and other tax document processing necessary to facilitate home closings (so good for the housing market) Payments to federal contractors who in turn won't be able to pay their workers which adds another big slug of out-of-work people to that figure referring to direct government employees. Fact is, the White House hasn't yet figured out all the derivative negative impacts that will accumulate as time goes on... BUT Strangely* the National Park Service somehow has money to keep the clock tower tourist attracting in the Old DC post office (i.e. Trump Hotel) open. *it's not strange.
