Okay, makes more sense. I definitely got the sense that the TV show "American Hero Story" was bullshit because Pete had said as much earlier and Blake told the cops to turn that crap off. The question is how much does the public know? They obviously know he was gay, or bisexual. I think I'm glad to go in this show pretty much blind because my friends keep asking if you have to know about Watchmen to enjoy the show and keep telling them that you don't, just watch the show, they dish out backstory enough for me to pretty much follow what's going on. At first I thought it was going to be another SJW feminist beat you over the head with racism fest, but it's so much more. I really like it.

There have been a few Superman references in this show... Was there one in this episode? I have one in my mind...

    Yes.

Incidentally, that's kind of out of continuity for the original Watchmen, isn't it? Pirate comics instead of superheroes in that universe? or was that only supposed to have changed later?

    I missed that!!

What made me think of Superman was when HJ followed his colleagues to the deli and fought them in their Klan costumes.

In the 1940’s, there were these Superman teleplays on the radio that were extremely popular with kids and the parents couldn’t help but listen when their kids did. One recurring theme was Superman fighting the Klan. All that talk of Grand Wizards and Grand Dragons fighting a comic book character just sounded so silly to the adults and the kids of the day grew into adults who despised the klan. Many scholars cite those radio plays with the fall in popularity of the Klan of that era.

And the mind control via radio plot is straight from several Superman stories of the 40s and 50s too.

They were juxtaposing Superman’s origin with William’s, a boy whose home was being destroyed just as his loving parents send him away to another world. I thought it was really well done.

    not an unreasonable interpretation...
I think the transition to adventurer themes happens a little after the emergence of costumed crusaders. AC#1 would have been printed, but would also have not caught on over the next few years.

Where to start? The trial, hilarious. How do you kill a god? Seventh Calvary is obvious Trumpers. I do have a feeling things are going to get muddy though. Blake will likely team up with Angela. The question is where's Looking Glass? What's Petey going to do? What happens next with Ozzy? Will the reassemble the Watchmen to stop Seventh Calvary? There's no way this wraps up in two episodes, so cliffhanger ending.

That's good to know. I hate it when there's a good show that gets cancelled after a couple of seasons with loose ends that'll never get tied up.

They mention that it's possible that there will be more seasons, but the intention is for this one to wrap up its story in one.

My guess is that the 7th Kalvary is successful in trapping Dr. Manhattan in the Intrinsic Field Generator and steal his powers and Joe Keanne becomes the new Dr. Manhattan. however, in the nanoseconds it takes for him to eliminate all the none-white people from the face of the Earth, he understands how arbitrary and useless the construct of race is, gets bored and decides to no longer give a fuck. A few nanoseconds later, the real Dr. Manhattan reconstitutes himself and zaps Keanne and the 7th Kalvary to high hell.

I had a feeling that Cal was Dr. Manhattan all along. My first suspicions came about in episode 2 I think when when Angela and Call are attacked in the White Night. A couple of gunmen enter their home on Christmas night and Angela subdues one and the other gets the drop on her. Then she wakes up in a hospital bed... Cal disappears and inexplicably survives. How did Angela survive for that matter? If you watch that fight in her kitchen, there's this eerily blue glow off in the background... At first I thought it might be a light from a coffee maker or other kitchen appliance, but in the back of my mind I was thinking Cal is Dr. Manhattan! Later in the show, the next ep I think, Angela is struggling to explain the death of the police chief to her kids... and Cal jumps in and basically explains atheism to the kids, That's when I pretty much figured he was Dr. Manhattan.

Lastly, I just want to offer the ladies who watch this show an opportunity to have a baby as cute as that little girl who played little Angela... 15 cc's of my patented "Alpha-Goo" should do the trick. Actual results may vary. ;)

I saw someone comment elsewhere that if that were to happen the only skin color a new Manhattan would care about would be blue. :bergman:

I wondered about that myself, but didn't make the Manhattan connection.

If any of you read Peteypedia, the site has the blueprints for Laurie's Dr. Manhattan vibrator and in a roundabout way they give a clue about Manhattan's hidden identity. The device is named Excalibur.

    Ex-Cal-Abar. :bergman:

Meaning that Laurie either knew or suspected that Cal was Manhattan, especially with her comments to Angela about how hot she thinks Cal is. Given the revelation, it paints the Laurie/Angela sniping in a different light now.
