Just started Red Dead Redemption II.

So far :techman: but I think I used the wrong horse. The game is telling me to get a shotgun from the horse and the horse doesn't have one. Not sure what to do. Might have to start that part of the game over.

Enjoying Wuppo. It's cute, entertaining, and there are occasional chances for the player to intuit the game logic and feel clever.

picked up the director's cut edition of Wasteland 2 a while back via Steam. A few days off this week, so getting some quality time in.

Fairly well executed, albeit simplified, RPG/squad adventure in the post apocalypse with the usual mix of real time and turn based combat. Took a while to even find out there was a mini map (which had seemed like a stupid oversight) as it's only accessible through the keyboard. Not interactive either, making it annoying to send your team anywhere-yet once a movement order is given, it shows them in motion. Seems a little ass backward. Combat is based on initiatives, which frequently leaves a character in the line of fire... cna mess you up if you have a heavy hitting NPC tagging along. Generally similar to Fallout: Tactics, but way prettier with more everything.

You start with a team of four rookie "Desert Rangers"... sort of a cross between old west marshals and mad max... but can get your first recruited member on your way out of the base. Tripping around the wastelands of Arizona and California, you do the typical travel around to find new adventures while performing your main goals. Random encounters between points are frequent, but avoidable/skippable. Easy buff fodder though.

What really makes the game for me is the settings and scripts. The references to everything from Mad Max to the Atari El Dorado of ET cartridges to just meeting up with Magee and Hopi from Love and Rockets have had me grinning throughout. THe rendering of the location backgrounds is likewise filled with easter eggs-often requiring familiarity with genre related tropes to interact intuitively. Dialogues are frequently sarcastic and humorous, with a fair amount of swearing. I'd guess there's an option to turn that off, but I'm not concerned about it corrupting my cat.

At least on par with Jagged Alliance 2 (vanilla) but for a minor number of shortcomings and likely moddable limitation. Seems like there'll be better replay value based on some of the "A or B" choices that effect the story.

I got it on sale for about $15 Cdn and would say I'm getting my money's worth.

    solid 4/5

This was a good year to (finally) get a Monster Manuel in Kingdom of Loathing, because part of the "build Crimbo Town yourself" quest is to go around to different zones to find elves to bring back to Tammy, so I'm getting a good bit of it filled out already. One of my favorite sets of factoids so far is for the dairy goat:

    • Mountain goats are excellent climbers, and can scale cliffs that are extremely difficult for human climbers. If you're forced by destiny to find and milk one to make cheese, you can consider it a real feta fate feat.
    • Goats are frequently associated with devils because of their horrible creepy eyes, and their tendency to trick humans out of their souls.
    • Goats do not actually eat tin cans, but they will drink all the coolant right out of your car's radiator.

    Classic KoL:

In the Sleazy Back Alley, you are attacked by a completely different spider than the big creepy spider that you may or may not have already been attacked by. Yikes! Step on Spider!

    [I win]

Monster Manuel surveys the grisly scene of your victory, blinking away wistful tears. "Amigo, I lived with these guys for years until I earned their trust and found out their secrets, okay. For example:

"The completely different spider parts its hair on the other side and has a moustache, so he's definitely not that other spider."

Revisiting Stardew Valley again. But this time I'm editing the game files and modding it myself. Obviously the first priority was to turn all the bachelors into women. At the moment I'm editing and adding extra dialogue from some other mods and then adding some lines of my own.

I haven't modded a game like this in a few years. I know it gets monotonous after some time but for now I'm having fun with it.

Just started playing World Of Warships. I'm not big into online games, but this one is kind of addictive. Be forewarned, they don't take kindly to you accidentally sinking a destroyer that's on your own team. :( Even if he had no business whatsoever wandering up directly in front your broadside point blank while you're in the middle of a fight with another cruiser.

Just had a blast playing the Ghostbusters game (the 2009 one with the original gang) via back compatibility on the Xbone. Graphics sill hold up and the sound is better than ever now I'm on a 49" HDTV screen with soundbar (woulda been my old 32" back in the day). Finally finished it too - I used to get stuck at the bit where you have to open some stuck gates whilst flying nasties are attacking - the game didn't make it obvious back then WHERE you had to slam the beasts to open the gate, but I figured it out this time.

Just a shame it's so short - only took me two nights to finish, could probably have marathoned it in one long one.

No Man's Sky... Not sure if I like it or not. I like how the game generates planets and the biodomes on it I don't really care for how much you have to grind on it though

DCS Heatblur F-14 module. (study sim) Meticulously modeled- you can throw every switch and knob in either cockpit, and they work as advertised. Bought a Rift-S headset just for this and it's blowing me away. Also have a 'voice attack' app plugin that allows me to 'talk' to the RIO, AWACS, the ship, forward air controllers, and my wingmen over a headset rather than using in-game menus. It's fucking balls.

Half the fun of this thing is landing it on the boat. My LSO grades are getting better all the time...

I fly planes for a living. I always find it a little ironic that one of my favorite things to do when I'm off is fly flight sims. :P

Bored so bought some cheap PS4 stuff. Far Cry 4 is OKish but the story missions aren't engaging me, partly because choosing between Amita and Sabal is like choosing between AIDS or cancer. And I hate stealth-based missions which the game forces you into in parts.

I got The Raven: Remastered which is pretty good as a homage to Agatha Christie (Poirot especially) - a point/click mystery game where you play a Swiss police constable getting a chance to prove himself in the hunt for a master thief who was thought dead and has returned (I know the twist, so don't bother trying to spoil me). Only played the Orient Express section as I think it's about the sole PS4 game my mum would take an interest in and help me out, so waiting till she next visits.

Also bought L.A. Noire but haven't fired it up yet.

Nope, hate stealth games and jump puzzles. Far Cry 4 just about avoids them to the point it's bearable, but there are some missions (De Pleur's capture, for example) that had me swearing, but I made it through far enough to hit a checkpoint.

I've been spending a few lunchtimes playing Vader Immortal Episode 1 on the Rift.

The story component is short (about 45 minutes) but really well done, feels just like being in a movie. Amazing visuals and the light saber feels great.

There is a light saber training component to the game which keeps me coming back. I'm sure it will get repetitive eventually but for now I'm having a lot of fun swinging that saber around against the training droids. The sound and haptics are so spot on to make it feel like you're actually holding a working light saber.
