Just started Red Dead Redemption II.

So far :techman: but I think I used the wrong horse. The game is telling me to get a shotgun from the horse and the horse doesn't have one. Not sure what to do. Might have to start that part of the game over.

Enjoying Wuppo. It's cute, entertaining, and there are occasional chances for the player to intuit the game logic and feel clever.

picked up the director's cut edition of Wasteland 2 a while back via Steam. A few days off this week, so getting some quality time in.

Fairly well executed, albeit simplified, RPG/squad adventure in the post apocalypse with the usual mix of real time and turn based combat. Took a while to even find out there was a mini map (which had seemed like a stupid oversight) as it's only accessible through the keyboard. Not interactive either, making it annoying to send your team anywhere-yet once a movement order is given, it shows them in motion. Seems a little ass backward. Combat is based on initiatives, which frequently leaves a character in the line of fire... cna mess you up if you have a heavy hitting NPC tagging along. Generally similar to Fallout: Tactics, but way prettier with more everything.

You start with a team of four rookie "Desert Rangers"... sort of a cross between old west marshals and mad max... but can get your first recruited member on your way out of the base. Tripping around the wastelands of Arizona and California, you do the typical travel around to find new adventures while performing your main goals. Random encounters between points are frequent, but avoidable/skippable. Easy buff fodder though.

What really makes the game for me is the settings and scripts. The references to everything from Mad Max to the Atari El Dorado of ET cartridges to just meeting up with Magee and Hopi from Love and Rockets have had me grinning throughout. THe rendering of the location backgrounds is likewise filled with easter eggs-often requiring familiarity with genre related tropes to interact intuitively. Dialogues are frequently sarcastic and humorous, with a fair amount of swearing. I'd guess there's an option to turn that off, but I'm not concerned about it corrupting my cat.

At least on par with Jagged Alliance 2 (vanilla) but for a minor number of shortcomings and likely moddable limitation. Seems like there'll be better replay value based on some of the "A or B" choices that effect the story.

I got it on sale for about $15 Cdn and would say I'm getting my money's worth.

    solid 4/5
