Vietnam Veteran - Drafted
Infantry - Sgt. E-5
Alpha Company, 2nd of the 7th, 1st Cav
Were in that one unit 2/7 your whole enlistment or just during your combat tour? My pet peeve is in the movies when when one vet meets another (or questions that vets service in general, not necessarily combat) and asks "what outfit were you with?"
If anyone asked me that you better pack a lunch - between being assigned, attached to, transferred to, restructuring, activation and deactivation and two branches of the military, etc. it would be well over a dozen. I served with/supported three in a six month period in Iraq. 3/4 Cav treated us the best BTW.
Two tours RVN. Chinook crew cheif/ FE. Wanted to ride instead of walk. Just lazy I guess.
^Really? During my dad's 11 months or so on the ground in Korea (1952 IIRC) , I think he and his gun crew were with the same unit throughout.
In the Ironbound district, at the corner of Pulaski and Delancy Streets.
It was like being in a Bowery Boys film.
I was with Alpha Company for my whole tour in Vietnam
I extended, and got out of the Army on my return.
A sergeant threw me out of her apartment once after we had sex because she lit up a cigarette and we got into an argument over the merits of smoking. I was pretty sure she was going to start throwing things at me. True story.
I'd say that counts as combat experience.
Well that beats my afternoon at the surplus store in Okarche.
From the replies in this thread I think that there are not many with actual combat experience.
People might mock me, but I think that my experience in manhandling a lawyer and in choking a shoplifter qualify as combat. In fact I hope to be head of the armed forces. One day.
Your dad is a liar.
The 45th Infantry Division IIRC.
The Korean War IIRC.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhuser Gate......
Take it from me, you were the smart one.
An American, and of significant age to be a 'Nam war vet and you still beat my ass at fantasy football!
I had you pegged as a young all american jock who coaches 'soccer' or something with that knoweldge you have.
Salute you sir!
Funny thing is the only time I took fire was in the US working hurricane Andrew
You must be talking about Fantasy Soccer.
I was getting my combat experience while you boys were setting up shop here, thus the reason for my join date being in 2005 unlike the rest of ye'bastards.
Tex spent most of his military career dodging swords in the shower.
Whereas your experience includes the entire Sixth Fleet?
A Bowery Boys movie? So......no black people then. Newark has certainly changed I would say.
I would never bone a woman who smokes, unless it's weed. Tobacco is the devil IMO.
I'd rather fly than ride or walk. Except with one on my company commanders - she wasn't a very good pilot IMO.
We went out a few times. She never smoked. So I don't know if it was an after-sex thing or not, but man did we get into a good argument when she lit up. She was also in great shape. Probably could have kicked my ass!
Oldfella is a company commander hater.
Actually she was the only company commander NOBODY could stand. All of us NCO's avoided her at all costs. She flew a Blackhawk by trade
but should have flown a broom.
Sorry, I was just trying to joke a little bit.
You guys know this is just so he can compile a list of who has had combat experience so he can make self-righteous posts about how anyone else's opinions and posts about combat topics doesn't count.
Totally, no question about that. But it doesn't matter, because there are myriad reasons why his ideas can be shot down, whether or not the person arguing with him is on the list.
Separate names with a comma.
