I didn’t realize whites were decreasing in absolute numbers, thought it was just relative.

How much of Trumpism is lashing out over the rapidly changing demographics and power dynamics in the US?

Is there anything to be done except just waiting it out/pushing forward?

Well, unless white people start crankin’ out kids at a much higher rate . . . just gotta go with the flow.

Meh. The artificial distinction of race matters much less than living up to America’s ideals.

It wouldn't be the first time white power advocates had claimed they were being "bred out", so this is hardly something they wouldn't pick up on once it's in the public domain.

From the beginning of the whole MAGA-cult business I've always thought that it played a very significant part.

Question, do you mean the reality or the perception? The problem with the conspiracy theory mentality that permeates the movement is that the former is often less important than the latter.

    Both.

We know the reality is that whites are a diminishing part of the US population, but the perception among the Trump-types is that it's been happening for a lot longer than that, which explains his rise.

It's fear that American culture will be replaced Latin culture or Indian culture or whatever and that they won't simply integrate.

What the hell is "American" culture? Those flea-bitten Puritans? The Spaniards who arrived before them? The Vikings who arrived before them? Or the people who crossed the Bering Strait and got here centuries before any of them? :bailey:

Playing the purposely obtuse game again? Funny how others understood exactly what I meant and you didn't.

I understood what you meant. "The white people who arrived here, killed off the natives, built towns with the help of slaves, eventually rebelled against the white people they left Europe to get away from, named their country after an Italian, and claimed they'd invented themselves."

I just think your definition is a little narrow.

No, that's not what I meant. I meant the culture that has developed here since like shooting off fireworks on Independence day, celebrating thanksgiving with your family, celebrating memorial day with grilling outside, celebrating Labor Day, going to baseball games, trick or treating, parades, things like that

Interesting, because I live in a predominately black and Latino neighborhood and I see them taking their kids trick or treating every year. They grill out every all of the time. They shoot off fireworks on the fourth of July just like whites do. Maybe I'm missing something.

Exactly the point, in Western countries (The US isn't unique in this regard) the culture which grew from white culture is seen as synonymous with the national culture.

There is zero evidence that Latinx immigrants are integrating at a slower rate than prior migrants. The opposite in fact.

A bounty of research debunks the idea that Latinos are not integrated into American society: Latino immigrants, like other immigrant groups, are completely English dominant by the third generation; their economic mobility rate is almost equal to that of whites; and Hispanics are more likely to marry outside their group than blacks or whites.

    https://www.nbcnews.com/news/latino...n-real-problem-facing-latinos-america-n974021

Which is quite amazing when you consider they are a different ethnicity.

And if you worry Latinx immigrants won’t celebrate the 4th of July with fireworks then I seriously doubt you live in an high Latinx community.

[edit] LOL, literally within seconds of posting this fireworks started going off in my majority minority neighborhood.

Last Saturday I cooked a bunch of ribs and stuff for my daughter's birthday and invited some of my photogs over to celebrate.

While we were drinking beer on the patio after dinner there were fireworks going off somewhere in my neighborhood (probably 60/40 or even 70/30 Hispanic/other).

If next Saturday is like previous Independence Days, it'll sound like Baghdad here by nightfall.

I'd rather be in Dodger or Angel Stadium than watch it on TV. I'll even allow for a live Mariners game because that's the closest team. But that's really because I know how the game's played.

No but I can believe it. My (majority minority) neighborhood goes crazy on New Years, Lunar New Years and 4th of July with the fireworks. This year Juneteenth was added (or maybe I only just connected the dots this year). So much so that our Facebook page has made a box set for all the complaints (mostly yuppy whites and their poor terrorized dogs).
