An interesting idea has been proposed by the mooch. Perhaps trump will walk away from the presidency in march and not seek re-election.

I have to wonder on this one. Trump is taking a beating. He has the accomplishment of being a president, and at this point he could salvage his ego bubble and just walk away. He would have the ability to reform his bubble and convince himself he was the greatest and make his own story up. The only thing that forces him to take into account the bad of his presidency is that he is in the job and that pops the bubble and forces him to have criticism come in.

Get out before losing prevents losing.

That is a weird suggestion, but it is totally within his power. He sucks up a whole bunch of donation money and perhaps some favors for backing out, and that is it.

Scaramucci is scum but in this case I hope he is correct. Not sure who the Republicans would nominate. I don't know if Pence is that interested in a race just out of nowhere. Kasich might be a viable candidate.

On one hand I really agree. Trump is way to egotistical and petty to just walk away. On the other he totally hates losing and really never wanted to be president in the first place because he has to do things. He is lazy and I think wants to go back to being yessed all the time and block any criticism. Also he is compared to others as a president which does not make him look good. Trump has no loyalty or love of america, that is all an act. Trump has his own brand name, and I think it is a real possibility he might hang in for a while and rake in some money and favors, and perhaps even let the republicans buy him out of office given his reputation. If he left and tossed his support to their next selection that is a position he can leverage.

If the dems ran someone radically left like a socialist or an insider like biden the republicans would do better with someone less Trump. From a strategy perspective you could bury the progressive movement if you had a more acceptable republican running. Trump is not that big of a strategist, but the people with his ear might convince him that this is best.

on the flipside, if they have to nominate him out, the only way would be to find someone so squeaky clean that 45 can't bury them in mudslinging.

I see an impeachment trial in his future before he willingly walks away from office, honestly.

He's not going to resign. He's not going to not run for 2020. He's already running. His official campaign launch was back in June in Orlando.

No one is seriously going to try to run for nomination against him. Some people are making noise but they back way off the moment they open their mouth. If someone want to take the nomination from Trump they need to start now. Otherwise it's going to be too late. Also they need someone better than the ones who've been speaking. Not a chance in hell any of them beat Trump.

Trump packs his rallies. There are people that camp out days before in order to get inside. They have huge overflow areas. Trump's base is large enough that no one is going to take the nomination from him.

Impeachment would be awesome because it will just make the Democrats look stupid.

Do you guys think the Republicans won't drag the FBI, CIA, DOJ, State Department, and former White House officials that operated under Obama into the Senate (along with the Fusion GPS people hired by Clinton) and expose them for what they did during the campaign, while Trump was POTUS-Elect, and after he was sworn in?

Do you guys think the Republicans won't drag Mueller and everyone on his team into the Senate and expose everything they've done to hide what the others did? Mueller won't be able to say no comment at that point. He will have to answer. The Democrats won't be able to run interference like they do in the House and no one will be limited to five minutes to ask questions.

Trump will declassify everything to prove his innocence and in the Democrats case will collapse right there in the well of the Senate in front of the whole nation. You see all the ones from the three letter agencies and from Obama's White House wrote everything down. They assumed like all of you, and even me, that Hillary Clinton would win and they didn't have to worry as no one would ever see what they had done. It's why they went into absolute panic mode when he won and the whole Russia thing started 24 hours after the election.

Mueller didn't find any Russian collusion because there wasn't any. It was all made up. Mueller's real job was to cover up what really happened and hope to run the clock out to 2020 since apparently the Democrats and some Repubs like Mueller think Trump can't win in 2020. But that plan went to hell when Barr stepped in and stared asking questions.

Impeachment would be a great political gift to Trump. Please do it.

No. Seriously. Please call up your reps and beg them to impeach Trump. :chili:

There's no way Trump's ego walks away from the office. Either he's impeached (which I sure thought would have happened already, but Nancy Pelosi continues to demonstrate her incompetence) or he loses in 2020.

I can imagine him doing so if he could make the narrative fit with it being a personal victory, but as he's already started his campaign it's hard to see how that would play out.

Pelosi is adamant that an impeachment proceeding would "tear the democratic party apart." There are a lot of Dems representing Red districts right now... including my own. If the others are anything like mine, the people there would not like official impeachment proceedings at this point and I think the media is complicit in this. Mueller, unfortunately look into Emoluments violations or any financial irregularities in his investigation. Trump seems to have appointed officials that will block congressional oversight to this regard. He also threw softballs regarding the Russia investigation and reluctantly testified in the House hearing. He found more than 150 contacts between the Trump campaign and Russian operatives, but could not prove Trump understood that he was working with Russian operatives... or a conspiracy with a foreign operator.

The House returns from recess in the next few weeks. We'll see what they do then, but if impeachment is going to happen in the House, Pelosi and the Dems will have to make it more palatable for my neighbors. And it has to happen this fall. Anything later is going to fall into election season.

I agree to that point at this stage. Since the house can stop any problematic legislation it would look like a stunt for the election to some and work into his witch hunt narrative. Keep the investigation going and if he wins a second term then they have to attempt to impeach. I don't think any of his crimes have time constraints that would let the charges expire without trial. This way he gets his day in court if he loses, and there is not a shit show before the election. The dems can run on the idea that they will impeach if trump gets a second term which should help their turnout for congressional elections.
