Been working on a new book- military sci-fi, a war between humanity and an AI super-intelligence of our own making. I keep seeing this song as the opening tune of the movie- starting with an endo/exo, fusion-powered USMC fighter taking a cat-shot in high orbit, then making a planetfall over Mars, all to the rhythm of an 80's hair band classic. White Lion. Little Fighter. Close your eyes and imagine the opening credits, which would visually depict much the technology prevalent in the story, including augmented reality overlays in a modern, semi-virtual fighter pilot's HUD. All first person- you see what he/she sees. I always try to write 'cinematically,' as if the reader was watching a movie of what I'm writing. SW and BSG were big influences on me! Imgaine the fighter going down the CAT at the end of the intro, starting with the first hard riff. None of it will be posted here, because this is the one that I'm currently aiming to publish 'for real.'

    Little Fighter- the theme!

My editor keeps alluding to the 'movie rights' for my book. I think she's blowing smoke up my skirt, but I already paid her. I think she liked the story (she said as much, but who knows. I was paying her) and is being kind. If anyone who's going to read it wants to know how I imagined things in my head when I was writing it, just watch 'Lucky 13' in Netflix's 'Love, Death, and Robots.' I swear they read my mind- seriously, I had an 'odd' moment when I watched it because so many of their elements were MY elements. Blur Studios- I'm throwing out a kudo to them right here, but their work stands for itself. In the meantime, this song is my 'end credits', but Vitto hasn't replied to my text... (above post)

Finished my first pass of the final edit, and am proofreading prior to going to typesetting for the paperback version. Gonna do that first, then order a proof copy and format the e-book version while I'm waiting. The goal is to publish both, in tandem, on the same day. The ISBN numbers will be different, (industry norm) separately listed on the copyright page, but both editions will be identical in text.

This whole process has been very educational, and I have a fresh appreciation for how picky 'traditional' publishers have been with new, unknown authors in the past. I'm now my own publishing company, and a registered business in Idaho. Getting a book to print in a professional manner costs money- and there is no guarantee anyone is going to buy it.

Just the editor feedback with the style guide she provided was like a college grammar refresher- learned stuff I had forgotten, plus more I never knew before now. If you ever want to publish something professionally, get it professionally edited- cannot stress that enough. The non-award winning Naval History essay I submitted to USNI last year- after this, I realize it would have been a contender if I'd sent it to an editor for review and correction. I already predict I'm going to lose money on this book, but what the hell- I can afford it, it's on my 'bucket list,' and I do have a helluva story to tell. Maybe some good word of mouth will save me.

When it's done, a very select few of you will get a PM with details, and I will trust to your discretion. Some will get it through TrekBBS, not here. Don't want my real identity known here due to the toxicity of the board, like Dayton and Garamet- I'm publishing under my own name. A very few of you might be able to recognize my 'style' from past fanfic, but we'll see. Bottom line, I'm finally moving into the professional realm with my writing.
