For the first time, I just can't finish this book because it's just so bad.

You hear it about every movie based on a novel, but in this case it was pretty extreme. Eragon The Movie had very little basis in Eragon The Book. According to IMDB, "There are well over fifty differences between the movie and book plot lines."

A friend at work was going on holiday and asked if this would be a good beach read. I was about to tell her it would be, no thinking involved, nice and easy, a piece of trash fiction, when another work colleague (quite young) piped up that she found it very difficult to follow and really taxing. As she was a sweet girl I thought I'd just keep quiet.

I never used to get rid of books, but the flat gets overrun if I don't. :( I sell them now on Greenmetropolis. The downside of that though is I use the proceeds to buy more books. :?:

I don't think I've ever not finished a book... I may put it down for a while, but I'll pick it back up eventually.

Longest stretch of time between me starting a book to finishing a book was something like four years. read the first 80 or so pages the day I bought it. Got bored and put it down. Stumbled across it in a box four years later and finished it.

For those who though the Davinci Code was drivel could you please name one or two current novels that you feel were good.

Current being the last 5 years or so.

    Anything by Terry Pratchett.
Other than that, Trek, H2G2, and 50s/60s Sci Fi, most of what I read was written in the 19th century...

Dan, I've read the Dirk Gentlys, and they aren't bad, but not up to H2G2. Don't reread them as often. ;)

The author I read every book of at the moment is Jasper Fforde. The Thursday Next Chronicles are excellent IMO.

I'm a fan of Caleb Carr. I've read The Alienist and Killing Time. I prefered The Alienist and I keep meaning to read The Angel of Darkness, but I have so many books to read at the moment it keeps getting lost.

I loved THe Alienist. I like stories set in late 1800s to early 1900s in NYC. The follow up to that book was The Angel Of Darkness. Not as good as The Alienist bu the same crime fighting team was used.

    Will check into those others.

I had a dream where aliens kidnapped me, along with the first four people on that list.

I had fun hanging out with them, but there was some awkwardness trying to figure out why I was there.

Crichton posited I had future significance, like some John Conner type deal, but I laughed it off.

Geez, I wish I wrote all that down now, that woulda been a good story.

I slowed down a bit but at one time I could say that I had read most all Trek books. I own most of the hardcovers.

Federation and THe Return being two of the best.

For New York in the late 40's with Jazz, and....voodoo, try this: http://www.amazon.com/Falling-Angel-William-Hjortsberg/dp/1933618086/ref=sr_1_1/002-1667091-0152026?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1177708994&sr=1-1

One hundred times better the that crapfest of a movie they made of it (with the exception of seeing Lisa Bonet naked:cool: ) give it a read.

Yes, I would be interested in this. But I have to see how they translated it. I hate simple mided writing. Stuff like James Patterson 'Kiss the Girls' or some John Grisham or Dean Koontz though he has a few good ones.

Those are like screenplays with no real depth.
