I think having the Shat in there in some form or other would be good. And the franchise really, really needs a success to survive. link
How could you put Shatner in it? He weights about twenty stone, plays a character who's dead, and looks far, far too old.
It's about an early mission of the Enterprise. He either would play someone else (Kirk's father, perhaps?) or there'd have to be some kind of time travel aspect to the story.
He's also too fucking expensive. Hey, Bill, offer to work for scale, instead of your usual mega-millions plus points, and maybe they'll let you do an under-five!
If they could do it with Spock, why not him? Though I do think he'd probably price himself out of reach. He's complaining about not being included but I'm thinking it's more his fault than their unwillingness.
In the book his body is stolen and brought back to life. Then its leads to the Mirror univers Kirk. I don't care what any of you mugs say. That was a great series he wrote and only Shatner could bring Kirk back.
No, V'ger was changed by the Borg. But its seems odd to read a book you don't care for and recall parts of it years later. I don't read nothing I don't like or have a bias towards.
Shatner was, is, and always will be Kirk. The new film is taking a huge risk in replacing him but it had to be done. I just hope we don't wind up with another Timothy Dalton-type experience.
What a megalomaniac... It's not like everything Shat was in was pure gold, you know. In fact, far from it. Just stick to what you do best now...Denny Crane.
He's so old he doesn't even look like he could be Kirk's father - his face has aged enough to think that maybe, just maybe, he could be Kirk's uncle.
I just reviewed pictures of the cast and I think it might work. But it all depends on how they act. We know the top three (Kirk, Spock, McCoy) very well. How will we react if we hear the new Bones say..He's dead, Jim. Kirk's style was quite unique. This guy has to be a young Kirk without looking like a satire of him. I'm personally looking forward to this but with the upset of Enterprise...who knows. For all you Voyager haters, I liked it and can watch reruns of it. Enterprise, I almost have to put it next to Firefly in my dislike. Make 1 out of 10 Entrprise eps were enjoyable to me.
1 out of 10, yes. The mirror-universe episode was great, but the T'pol on drugs episode was worse than crap-and-vomit.
Spock will probably be in the movie for short bit. could be him thinking back or something. Plus Vulcans have a long life span. They gave McCoy a long life span but he died in real life.
Why do you think it wasn't him? I do beleiev that Christian hooked that up and it did appear legit to me. But please don't let me have to hear about POTN and his rudeness again.
I hope the story doesn't start with old Spock telling a child about his past, and then in the end he dies of old age but the child now knows the story etc. That didn't make sense.
It did fit in with what little I know of the guy. Seems perfectly natural he'd show up just long enough to publicize his own site and then bail when it launched. As for Spock showing up, it'd have to be remembrances or some such. Like Data, there's only so much makeup can do to hide aging.
William Shatner signed on to TBBS and there was a thread he started and folks posted. I guess he responded while on line for a few days and then that was that. I pretty much believed it was him because he had a special logon set up for his use. Not just somebody joining and using the name William Shatner. But of course you have the non-believers. POTN got into snit with him. But please...PM him on this...If he gets started in a thread....sheeesh!!!
It could be because Vulcans have a much longer life span than humans. Even in Sci-Fi. Probably outlived 'The Kirk' in the new movie.
