Mmmmm...collard greens, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, turkey, and biscuits!!!! Just say YUCK to: black eyed peas, green bean casserole, ham, and sweet potatoes! Pie has to be pumpkin, cherry, or mincemeat.
Baked macaroni and cheese is My family has all the usual stuff, but for me it's mac & cheese, mashed potatos, deviled eggs, and these super soft wheat rolls with real butter. Oh, and my momma's chocolate pie.
No pigging out for me tomorrow; I may get a 'turkey dinner' crew meal, but the edibility of said meal is TBD. OTOH, I'll be cashing in to the tune of almost $900 for being on duty tomorrow. And I'm one of those heathens who'd rather have ham anyway.
Tuna fish casserole. It's made with macaroni noodles, tuna fish, cream of mushroom soup, and velveeta cheese. You make it in layers, The noodles first, tuna fish, soup, then velveeta cheese.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!! I am very thankful for and love you all so much...even those I argue with. Have a wonderful holiday!!
I usaually don't give a shit about Thanksgiving, but I'm glad I'm off tomorrow, because I had a rough week. I need a day to unwind.
My dad makes great deviled eggs. He was a cook in the army and can lay on a real spread come holiday time. My dinner tomorrow night will consist of barbecued turkey and creamed corn from Rudy's BBQ along with stuffing and other things my wife's gonna make (she does this green beans and onions cooked in some kind of wine sauce thing that's ). Desert is a buttermilk pie from Tootie's Pies. Best fuckin' pie I've ever had.
Thanksgiving was last month for us up here. But you people are making me hungry. So much so that I may just have to heat up those leftovers from last month to celebrate with you guys.
I'll be on my way to Thanksgiving dinner in just a couple of hours now, quite a while ahead of the rest of you!
Speaking of Army cooks, if anyone has ever been to an Army mess hall at Thanksgiving, you know what I mean. They lay out a great spread, and all the officers and senior NCO's are decked out in their finest. Sometimes they serve the food themselves, depending on the contracting agreements. But regardless the food is reasonably priced, and as open to the public as they can make it.
I came in here to say Happy Thanksgiving. Then I read oldfella's comment, and got so sidetracked thinking about those officers in their uniforms I left without posting. So I came back to say Happy Turkey Day to one and all.
Well things being what they are in todays Army, I hope you like dark meat. Hey, that's funny right there, I don't care who you are. For the slower folks on WF.....Fort Gordon (like many Army posts) had oodles and oodles of minority officers and soldiers in general. Yes, I would tell this joke in front of blacks Iwork with, and would get high-fived for my efforts.
We have plenty of those here too. Even a few female officers to fuel my "office sex" fantasies! Heels, dresses - do the math Nothing like a young female Luitenant or Captain to warm your giblets!
I'm off to work in like two hours... I'm hopeful it will be a slow day. Sit back, throw a movie up on the tv's in the store and relax
I just got back from one of the most interesting Thanksgiving meals I've ever had. There were about ten or twelve of us at the table (not everyone was there the whole time), only 2 of whom were Americans. Three English, one German (my wife), and the rest French. It was organized by a couple we know who live in a fairly isolated village. She is American and he is French. She made a pretty traditional American Thanksgiving meal, inviting most of their neighbors over for it. For most of them, it was the first time they had ever had a Thanksgiving meal. But everyone loved it. The French didn't think too much of the cranberry sauce, but the English enjoyed it. (Unfortunately, there were no sweet potatoes. She said she hadn't been able to find any, but since neither her nor her husband like them, I don't think she tried too hard. You can buy them here without too much difficulty if you know where to look.) Some of the stuff was a bit odd, but the pumpkin and pecan pies were just like back home! Oh, wow! I hadn't had pecan pie in several years... Right now, I'm as stuffed as a turkey just about ready to pop in the oven.
Christ, so much for this Thanksgiving. We were going to my cousin's. On the way there, we realized we forgot his address, so we came back. And what did we find? The dishwasher exploded, soaking the entire kitchen and half of the (carpeted) dining room. So, no good food, the house smells like wet carpet (go figure!), and half of the house is filled with stuff we've had to move.
Phone number was in my dad's cell, which we forgot. We had my mom's cell, so we tried calling other relatives, but none of the ones we could reach had his number or address. So, we came back to get it, then head back out again - we had only driven about twenty miles. It's amazing the amount of water a dishwasher can pump out in forty minutes
Yeah, I suppose it was probably a good thing that you had to return home so soon. Who knows how bad it could've been if you hadn't...
