They are so anxious to kiss the Muslims ass it is pathetic. http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/meast/05/17/btsc.ware/index.html Now they are wanting to punish soldiers for shooting a copy of the Koran, fuck that horse shit right in the ass. If they had shot holes in a copy of the holy Bible, no one would be giving a shit. It is not a criminal act and that fucking general needs to be shot for being an muslim ass kissing dick head. What the soldiers did cannot be a crime or that law would be showing respect to one religion above others which is a direct violation of the 1st amendment rights of those soldiers. They are trying to force our GIs to respect a religion, fuck that shit.
If the job of the military is to protect, I don't see how discouraging actions that will make us even more hateful, dangerous enemies is really such a bad thing.
I'm no general, but I can certainly see how "don't intentionally do something you know will offend our allies" is a reasonable rule in a warzone. Wouldn't you want Iraqi troops disciplined if they were caught pissing on the American flag or something?
Last I checked, and as most of your ilk are quick to point out, we ain't tryin' to gain allies amongst Christians. [action=Kyle]hits the buzzer.[/action] WRONG. See, here's the thing - whether you like it or not, we do need the help of the people over there. And the fact is, those that are willing to help are doing a great thing. And we'd like more of them to come and be allies with our troops, because that not only increases support for what we're doing, but it makes the support we give better. It's therefore a royally stupid move to piss off these people, many of whom, chances are, for the first time had said, "Y'know, these guys are alright." They aren't forcing GIs to respect a religion. They're forcing GIs to, if they cannot respect allies, at least not make an already tenuous situation worse. Because that's their job, in the end. To make things better. Not only for the people over there, but, indirectly, for the people over here too. And shit like this doesn't do that.
I know this is a leap for some of you but it is possible to respect people without having any respect for their religion. I find it pathetic that the same people that spit on our own Christian religion think that we should show respect to the muslim religion. Do we believe in separation of church and state or not? I would really hat to be a member of the US military today. Those guys get no support from anybody. They are still US citizens with rights just like anyone else. They are sworn to support and defend the constitution of the United states.
Whether you think this is "kissing Islamic ass" or not, you would have to be one dumb-assed fucker to shoot up a Koran in a country where many of your allies could indeed be Muslim. When I was in Bosnia a storm came and tore through our tent, spreading our porn magazine collection to the winds. Muslim workers were cleaning up the aftermath, but wouldn't pick up our ample porn collection that had spread over a big area. We had to send a soldier to pick up the porn pieces. It upset us, because our presence kept the Serbs from killing their asses. But you must pick your fights carefully - politics is involved in EVERYTHING and the military is no different.
Yes, politics is one thing but religion another. Just because a person is stationed in a place does not mean they have to obey the one of the religions of that country.
You're not even listening, are you? You just want to whine about how unfair life is for poor, white, christian males. Go ahead, knock yourself out.
No American has to obey another religion! I guarantee nothing in that Koran is oppressing the comings and goings of that Koran shooter in any way, shape or form! And does the Army marksmanship manual contain any information stating using a Koran for a target? Like it or not, we represent our unit and our country, period. We need to put our personal beliefs on the back-burner, or at least express ourselves in the proper forum. IMO the Koran shooter is a fucking moron. I've had some idiots on my crews who got into trouble, but I tried to get them out of trouble (or their charges reduced) every time. But if one of my crew-members did something like this I'd tell him he's an idiot, he's hopeless, and to get fucked.
No, I just don't think it is the duty of our GIs to be respecting religions. Respect the country, yes. Respect the people, yes. Respect the religion, fuck no. I think it is you who doesn't understand. If you are not Christian, then how would you like being forced to respect it by law? or any other religion? Ever read the constitution? There is no exclusion for military. Yes, they have to obey orders, but an order making them respect any religion is not a lawful order.
No, we don't have to respect a religion.....but why should we disrespect it? I'm just not seeing how this is "kissing Muslim ass". We are not doing any special favors because they are Muslim, or treating them any different than any other allies. Shooting a holy book (or any special book) shows immaturity and is unprofessional by anyone's standards. Sorry, but I think this is not an example of a "pussified" military. There are plenty of examples of how our military is pussified, but this just doesn't meet the criteria.
Look at it this way: American soldier gets jollies shooting up a Koran. Meanwhile an Iraqui civilian who stumbled on a location of where some terrorists are hiding arrives just in time to see GI Dope desecrating their holy text. Maybe instead of helping out and reporting this info to someone, they get offended and walk away instead. Telling the soldiers to behave themselves and not act like immature children, causing offense to people we are trying to help is not the same thing as forcing them to respect the religion.
Fuck you! I am listening, but you are not. What the fuck are our guys fighting for if the basic concepts of the constitution do not apply to them?
EP. They are not being told they have to practice their religion. There is no freedom from religion....just freedom from being told what god you have to worship and in what way.
For someone who was in the military (albeit the Chair Force), you seem to have forgotten that you sign away some "basic concepts of the constitution" when you enlist. UCMJ and all that...
What part of the UCMJ says that you have to show respect to a certain religion? If those same soldiers had shot up a bible here in the states, there would be thousands of people defending their right to do that. Yet if they do that to the book of another religion it is illegal?
I was in the Air Force and The Army. During Air Force basic training, we were having some class about law or something. Someone asked why our "rights" were taken away while we were in the military. Our Drill Sergeant said they weren't taken away, they were just "put on hold" for a while. And that is true....we agree (when we enlist) to abide by a certain way of living so the average Joe can enjoy their full freedoms. When we are too old to serve, some young people will (hopefully) give up a few years of freedom to protect our old asses.
There is a difference between "showing respect" and "not showing disrespect." You seem to think this is a civil rights issue. It's not. It's a "don't do anything to complicate the mission" issue. You really don't see that?
Some rights were taken away, thats true, but on things like religion I don't remember them having any respect for any one of them.
The part that says these guys should follow orders to not disrupt the mission over there. Anc can confirm this, but I'm betting that everybody who goes over there is ordered not to offend the sensibilities of the local populace as it would be counterproductive to the mission. No, I'm thinking that they'd be in some sort of trouble for doing that, too. Are you being deliberately stupid on this, or are ya' drinkin' again?
You don't have to respect shit. Just keep your fucking mouth shut and your gun under control. It's the military...have some fucking discipline or get disciplined.
They were just probably blowing off a little steam. You gotta let people do that or they will break. Its 24/7 yah know.
They can go wank off in the toilet...there is no need to be shooting up anything, let alone the property of the people we are over there trying to assist. If they can't even control themselves for that, then maybe some people have a point that we are acting no better than animals over there. Have some respect for the uniform and the flag you are serving and act like an adult or face the consequences.
