It was getting a little hairy for England there towards the end. For most of the second half they had the Americans thorougly on the back foot but it started swinging back towards the end. They managed to hold onto it though.

Not a win but not a loss either. Not a great result but not as bad as could be.

I thought Gerrard might be sent off at one point (second booking) after a boot-to-thigh collision but it didn't happen.

Nobody said that they are the British team, meaning "the only team from Britain".

The United Kingdom is made up of four countries, England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. This is the legal entity that is recognised as one internationally and for the purposes of nationality.

Great Britain does not exist other than in the minds of ill educated Americans. Great Britain geographically is the above but without Northern Ireland. It is therefore an insult to Unionist Northern Irish (such as MF) to refer to the UK as great Britain.

Each country is a seperate entity within the UK. This is what has lead to administrative devolution and is why you will find the nationals of each country to be vehmently against being described as the other.

So, we are British in the way are subject of her Britannic Majesty, but that does not mean our individual countries should be ignored by ignorant foreigners.

How come there is no british team but there is a USA team? The USA is made up of 50 states, each one with its own laws and things. That doesn't mean that each one needs a team of girly boys running around playing kick ball. No one would go for that shit. Who sponsors the English team then?

Because your country is a federal union, not a combination of different countries. If it were then Texas would still be its own country.
