Interesting. You take what is only claimed as a hypothesis and state it as fact. Furthermore you neglect to mention that your own source says this hypothesis has largely been superseded by others. Yep, same old Ricky.
I offered the link as an example of what I'm talking about. I do not claim that that particular hypothesis is definitive. However you will find that it overlaps quite substantially with the alternatives, including with respect to my claim of there being multiple sources, which is what seems to have irked you.
You made a statement that you claimed as fact. My point is that your statement is not fact, it one of many hypotheses. I further find it most ironic that you of a people, an athiest does that. You claim the bible is false and cannot be proven, yet state other things that cannot be proven as fact if it fits with your theories of life. Quite hypocritical.
Only if you also cherry-pick out stuff from the J-man like.. Luke 14:26 'If anyone does not hate his father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, and yes, even his own life, he cannot be my disciple.' Yep, hate your family. Like cults tell you.
All right, now you're just plain lying. Pretty much most of Samuel, for crying out loud. If that shit were done for real, and today, that dude would be sanctioned by the UN until we got another Republican president. And damned right "Hitler", would be tossed around.
Here ya go RickyRetardo. This post of yours is not couched as a theory you make it a statement of fact. Once again your true color comes out and you're hoist by your own dumbass posts.
Again, the documentary hypothesis and its competitors (short of the divinely-inspired stupidity) all hold that there were multiple sources. I offered a link to the documentary hypothesis as an example. I did not claim it to be definitive. You're either very confused or think that if you make same accusation enough times, it will become true. I grow tired of having to repeat myself. I'm not interested in your petty oneupmanship.
Rick, your own post is your problem. It's quoted and you can't hide from it. Man up and be honest for once. You made your post as if it was a fact. Once again proven wrong you go off the deep end. That two threads you've done that in today.
This thread reminds me of something C.S. Lewis (who was an expert in literature, from quite a few different cultural sources, both ancient and modern) said in regards to people who try to take the Bible literally (when it suits them...) in order to troll it. I don't remember the exact quote, but the gist of it was: "Those who don't know how to read books written for adults should stick to reading books written for children." As for the subject itself, it has been well answered by several people, both believers and non-believers. (Including Rick, though many posters simply attacked him for holding to the documentary hypothesis, while not noticing that in the same post he also answered Dan's question just as nicely as anyone could have.)
Yes, C.S. Lewis said a lot of snippy little one liners with no substance or evidence to back them up. It's a cute line, but where's his superior "adult", interpretation? If anything, he continually keeps telling people to let go of evidence, and follow your feeeelings.
I dont, generally. If I did it would be because I posses a brain, and thats part of the way the brain marshalls thoughts. I doubt god has a brain.
Oh and no-one has yet answered the question as it isnt inherently answerable, as no-one, no matter how much you think you have 'studied' actually knows what happened....
Right, because trolls who pretend to be seekers of truth are such fun to spend time replying to at face value. Maybe when I was eight I might've felt for this kind of foolish teasing of others' belief systems. You're such a grown up in so many ways (it's just that none of them are ever in evidence on the board).
Awww diddums, feeling trolled are we? Its amazing that on a discussion site politics is ok, music is ok, TV and film is ok,.. but go near religion and NOOOOOOOOOOOO /vader/ Pathetic
This just came to me and I can't figure it out. Why do atheists lose so much sleep over something they claim to not believe in?
I think you might be mistake,.... again. Plus,...atheists dont talk about religion half as much as the left talks about the right and the right the left. Do you believe in the left?
No, I dont lose any sleep over other peoples beliefs systems. I just think they're interesting sometimes.
No, but you sure seem to enjoy pointing out how wrong and stupid they are in the most passive-aggressive way possible. Tuttle's comment was spot on.
And what about that Santa Claus? How does he deliver all those toys in just one night? How come we've never seen that thread? Or how Hamlet could've possibly seen the ghost of his father? Hell, you don't even spend this much time agonizing over Star Trek, yet you're clearly wound up about this "God" thing you claim to not believe in.
And I love when you get the venom-dipped sniveling from other so-called atheists. My ass. Faith-iests, I call 'em. They don't believe the horseshit, but man, they just ADORE that other people do. I think it's plain condescending. It's like thinking it's cute that kids believe in Santa. It's no way to treat an adult. I have the respect to say "I disagree, and here's why". And I respect in turn those who counter with "I think you're argument is wrong, here's why". Not so much the "you're a doody head", bullshit. That concedes the argument.
If it makes you happy, I think Santa is some bullshit to sell kids on too. But, I ain't talking to kids here, am I? Or, I'd like to think so.
No sleep lost, I just think it's more than a little bit lame and pitiful for our species that the world could conceivably be blown up over what some babbling epileptic scribbled out in a cave millenia ago.
