And Jimi, IIRC. Jim Morrison checked out at about that age as well, along with Kurt Cobain. Something about being ~27, it seems.
True. Too much, too soon, and not enough life experience, perhaps, to deal with any of it. That said, Jimi, Janice and Jim all left behind (what I'd argue as) iconic contributions to music and popular culture. I don't know that history is going to say the same about Winehouse.
Winehouse will be the poster child for someone who could have been big but was drowned in drugs and drinking.
Hendrix, Joplin, and Morrison not only all died at age 27, they died within less than a year of each other...Jimi and Janis only a few weeks apart.
We'll...I wanted to die at 27. But I was gonna save it 'til 30. Then 30 came, and things looked like they were picking up a little. Now, I still got the same problems, but I just don't give a shit anymore. See, if those 27s had just stuck it out....
Out of all of the "Lesser Known" folks on that list, Gary Thain of Urian Heep and Robert Johnson are the biggest heartbreakers.
This. Unlike the others mentioned, Winehouse was known mainly for how fucked up she was, not her music.
