I'm not entirely sure that "it's better to burn out than fade away".

Oh, and I recall a few of you predicting this exact outcome a few years ago.

It would have been more shocking had she lived to a ripe old age, sadly.

Same age as Janis. Sometimes freedom really is just another word for nothing left to lose...

Not surprised and honestly don't care. She wrecked her life.

And Jimi, IIRC. Jim Morrison checked out at about that age as well, along with Kurt Cobain. Something about being ~27, it seems.

Too much, too soon, and not enough life experience, perhaps, to deal with any of it.

That said, Jimi, Janice and Jim all left behind (what I'd argue as) iconic contributions to music and popular culture. I don't know that history is going to say the same about Winehouse.

Winehouse will be the poster child for someone who could have been big but was drowned in drugs and drinking.

Dr. Drew will be all over this.

Hendrix, Joplin, and Morrison not only all died at age 27, they died within less than a year of each other...Jimi and Janis only a few weeks apart.

Without the drugs and drinking, she wouldn't have been as big, IMHO. sad, but true.

I'm surprised the same didn't happen to Courtney Love, to be honest.

Out of all of the "Lesser Known" folks on that list, Gary Thain of Urian Heep and Robert Johnson are the biggest heartbreakers.
