I heard just the quote part on the radio this morning and briefly wondered if it might have been my brother - cuz I wouldn't put it past him, even at 50. So, thanks for the link. BTW, do you have any thoughts on the matter? or just wanted to gage everyone else's reaction first?
He's defending himself against whom? The article didn't mention any negative reaction. I can't comprehend the size of the puritanical stick that must be wedged up your ass if you have a problem with a married man using inoffensive slang to describe his wife's general attractiveness in a prayer.
I put the "Yeah, Baby!!" comment and the on there to say I approved. I thought that about summed it up. I've prayed in public before (not in front of an audience this size) and probably will again and never thought to do this. Now that this seed has been planted, though... Of course, my wife would kill me if I did it while secretly loving it all the time.
Well of course every woman wants to be thought of as "smokin' hot" by her husband/boyfriend and it's not unheard of for someone praying in public to thank God for their spouse - even his "beautiful wife" or her "wonderful husband". In this particular instance, the terminology and the place are appropriate. At a NASCAR race, I'm not surprised by the paster using that particular phrase.
Now you're just being mean. Every wife deserves to be treated like a beauty queen. It's the having kids part that will mess you up.
Well Duh. He was paraphrasing Ricky-Bobby from Talladega Nights. "Dear Lord Baby Jesus, I want to thank you for this wonderful meal, my two beautiful son's, Walker and Texas Ranger, and my Red-Hot Smokin' Wife, Carley"
I have no problem with what they want to do with each other behind closed doors, as disgusting as it is, but must they rub everyone elses noses in it?
Why does everything have to be an arguement? I'm just saying I've never seen the movie. I'm not saying he was wrong or shouldn't have said it or it was inappropriate or anything else other than - "I didn't see the movie."
I just thought the comment was funny and thought we needed a funny thread. I wouldn't really think it was inappropriate in some church services. Maybe it's just me but I think it's right for men to have open (and correct to the setting, of course) displays of affection for their wives.
Well, that pic is evidence enough - the pastor has read Heinlein's Notebooks of Lazarus Long: always tell your wfe she is beautiful, especially if she isn't.
^ Looks are what most often attract people in the first place but they won't keep you together forever. And who was it that said sex was 90% (or whatever high number) between the ears anyway?
I have no problem with what they want to do with each other behind closed doors, as disgusting as it is, but must they rub everyone elses noses in it? Ewwwww.......thanks for that mental image!
I'm sure Dayton gets a lot of sex from his wife. That's the thing about good, Christian marriages: they're fruitful like that.
