BBC are reporting it. Good riddance I say. Codemned his people to international isolation and poverty so bad that many towns were only allowed electricity several hours a day, all while he and his family lived in palacial surroundings. More proof than ever that communisim does not work and is only ever abused by those who rise to power through it.
Yes. He's be ill for some time and this has been discussed over recent years. His son is lined up to take over. Curiously he has a lesser know second son who lives abroad and is something is an Uday Hussian style playboy (albeit without the routine murders). He's been shunned somewhat.
Yup. And he's the new guy, so he'll be doing all he can to not look weak... I wouldn't make any plans.
This is some good news for a change. About time Kim Jong Il was kicking daisies. Folks escape into China from North Korea. CHINA! That says it all about Kim Jong Il's regime.
He's not dead, he's just abandoned this body and flown back to his home planet in his itty-bitty bug-sized spaceship.
My biggest issue with Hussein's death was the way we went about it, like it was some kind of made for TV show trial. He reaped what he sowed, but the way it was done just didn't sit well with me. I actually prefer the way it was done with thugs like Osama bin Laden. Unceremonious and quickly dispatched. They deserve nothing more. Just as with all people, when these "leaders" finally die, I remember that any man's death diminishes me, but I have to say that this one diminishes me a little less. Like Saddam, he was a tyrant, a fool, a petty thug who let millions starve in abject poverty while he lived like a King. His arrogance and ignorance were his tools of choice, and I am satisfied to see him bereft them. He can't murder anyone any more. So when these men murder, when they take pleasure in the deaths of innocent people around the world, their end isn't met with joy, but it is met with a sense of resolution.
While I'm glad this one is gone, I'm almost positive his son won't be an improvement. Not all change is for the better. We'll see, I guess.
Well, that's 2 that I can count in the Foriegn Dictator/Despot death pool (Kim & Khadaffi(sp)). Who's next? Will we get a 3-fer to end out 2011?
It coodna happen to a nicer farging guy, ya know what I mean? Maybe the people will be able to get some sort of civilized life now, but I doubt it.
Just heard this morning on the news that North Korea test fired a short range ballistic missile. No more details then that yet.....
I'm sure whatever kind of death he died was far better than what he deserved. Ward has it right: it might be worth celebrating if we could hope someone better would take his place. The last time I can think of that the death of a dictator (without bloodshed) resulted in a better government was in Spain when Franco croaked.
Syria's Assad would be a nice one to cap off the year but he's pretty young and seems to have a tight grip on things.
