How the hell do you think I know his IP? Without him being a member here anymore it isn't in the list. Plus, all he needs is a new provider, which I'm sure he must have by now, to bypass that. We'd have to ban the UK to keep him out and that isn't going to happen. If you want to be a paranoid idiot, keep on fighting to lift the non-existent ban...we can use the laughs. Extra evidence...the ban list "Bs":
No he didn't, we talked about this a few pages back. Being a member of a torrent message board is not a crime. Downloading a pirated file, or running a website allowing people to do so is the crime. The members wouldn't have been doing anything illegal, no matter how unsavoury the list transfer may sound in priciple. Let's face it, it's nothing that doesn't go on these days with large companies and their third party online partners.
So you're saying that if he pitched up tomorrow and annouced who he was he wouldn't be banned? I ask this because if he would be banned all this stuff you are doing to try and prove he could come back undercover is a bit pointless.
Frankly it's a bunch of nonsense to suggest that he was involving board members in "illegal activities". Was he posting illegal materials as you at his torrent board, Muad Dib? I agree it's a shitty thing to copy the user database, but it's a big leap in logic to assume that you would get in legal trouble if you did not actually do anything. This irrational fear over torrents comes from a misunderstanding of how torrents work and how the internet works.
Well, his board was bad enough that the host shut us down over it. In any event...I don't want people signing me up for anything without my permission. I should not have to go out of my way to unjoin something I wanted no part of to begin with. There is nothing in the sign up agreement here that says we can use the membership list any way we want to. He was being unethical and the legality is certainly questionable and when it came out the vast majority of the board agreed they didn't want to be pre-signed up for anything.
This, btw, I have a *very* hard time believing. Apart from it being a complete overreaction, does this mean that our host monitors every link on Wordforge? Because that's really not a good idea.
The threads you linked to say the board went down through Nick's fault, not the posting of the torrent link.
Right, and did any users get in trouble for it? Any legal trouble, even? My point is that when a host or law enforcement goes after a torrent website, it tends to go after the owners rather than the members. I agree that it was a shitty thing to copy the member database like he did, but there was never any danger of posters being put in legal trouble unless they were actively filesharing illegal torrents.
Elwood can probably tell you more about it...but if memory serves it was incredible bad luck and timing. They were checking our site for some reason and found it. It was a prominent link at the top of the forums page and hard to miss.
He had to be ragged constantly by the staff to not permaban him. In fact, when Borgs was censoring words, I believe "Baba" was one of them. He has a whole list of words he didn't like and didn't want to see.
Nick says just that in one of the threads. It's looking quite a bit like a lot of what borgs supposedly did is more myth than reality. Mythology can be very powerful, often becoming factual in the minds of the people who tell the stories. But the more information presented, the less it holds up to scrutiny. We have in the link provided Nick specifically saying "my fault" regarding the board crash, and yet people are still saying that borgs crashed the board. Also, regarding copying the member database, that's bullshit, because I remember receiving a PM from borgs asking me to register, which I did. The place was lame and had about 20 members, so I only visited one time. But why did I have to register if he copied the user database?
Yes, he had quite the baba obession, banning him for non-offenses and flaming him outside the red room. I recall threatening to issue borgs a warning at one time over the behavior, but apparently it wasn't possible to warn an admin, no longer sure at this point.
Like there was only once instance of the board being down. Borgs didn't cause a "crash" he caused the board losing it's host which isn't mentioned at all there. It's not a fucking myth, but you guys will believe what you want as always. In any event...Borgs isn't banned. We don't know his IP. So...
Yeah, I got the same PM and also registered. Doesn't mean he didn't still try and copy the members database. Mind you, when I visited his board there wasn't a detailed members list so clearly it hadn't happen by the time he was asking people to join.
I can confirm it exists. It wasn't the posting on the vB.com forums that got the license revoked, it was an email to piratereports, the service that handles this sort of thing for vB, after vB heard Elwood's side of the story and said our license status was kosher. Who in turn revoked our license and sent our host a DMCA takedown notice. I have a copy of that.
