Just to say, fucking around with people off the board is a fucking low thing to do, and there might be cause for rule against it if there is a clear indication that someone from here has purposely used information posted on here for malicious purposes.

Having said that, I don't think most cases of it are that obvious and in this case (Sorry Vlad) we have a situation where the complaint posted a request for votes to influence the outcome of a poll. The offending post in question states that Vlad was trying to use members of WF to vote to inflience a poll. Now, as shitty as that may be, that is actually rather accurate it seems. So what has been posted is not exactly slanderous.

I do think there should be consideration for a rule about using WF posted ifno offsite in a malicious way, but, at the same time, it would be a bit silly if nobody balanced such a rule against repeating information or actions that the "victim" has created for themselves.

^ Pretty much. If you openly admit to doing something unethical on another website (and post a link to it asking us to help you), I'm not seeing a huge problem with someone letting that other site know what's up.

As much as I don't want to revisit it, I will say this in response to Bailey:

The problem isn't that the person informed the viewers of the contest that I was using WF to promote myself, the problem was the word "sabotage." Whoever it was that did this specifically said I was using Wordforge to influence AND sabotage the poll. That is slanderous, seeing as how my intent is in no way to sabotage the poll, and the fact that it isn't in any way against the poll rules to gather votes from any friends we have. In fact, it's encouraged to do so on Competition page.

As I said before, unless it actually becomes a real issue, I'm not terribly concerned with it. Faceman, despite what I believe were in fact HIS intentions to influence others against me, didn't actually reveal devastating information. He said that I was using WF to influence the votes, and I am, just as every other artist is free to do. But he assumed this was somehow a terrible offense to the competition, and to be honest, I think he's upset because he's now realizing that it really wasn't as much of an act as I initially made it out to be in my anger.

One of the reasons people do a competition like this is to get new people interested in your product or site. It was one of the aims of the writing contest here, in fact, years ago.

Accusing him of sabotage...that's where it's over the line.

And no...I am not happy with the attempt to make it look like I did it, either. Who the fuck would be?

To add to what I said earlier, three things reinforce my above contention that this was a marketing gimmick and Vlad WAS doing as he was supposed to.

First off, the names of the artists were posted. If it was just supposed to be about what people on the site thought was the best artwork, then just put up the artwork.

Secondly, the fact that a contest was made out of it. We have polls all the time. Polls are about measuring sentiment. A contest on the other hand is about generating buzz. The fact that it was called a contest, publicized as a contest and given it's own page says that this was a contest and designed to create buzz.

And lastly/most importantly the multiple voting. If you just wanted to take the pulse of the site on artwork you would just have one man one vote. But no, multiple voting was encouraged. Why? B/c it's multiple hits on the site.

That is why I don't think Vlad was doing anything wrong.




Now, whether or not you agree with the above, in no way does that excuse the cunt that went and tried to fuck things up for Vlad. I don't give a shit who you are, you should be able to recognize that such behavior is FUCKING. WRONG.

We don't need a damn rule for this. If you don't have the moral compass or maturity to know where such a red line is then no big loss. Fuck whoever did this.

But that's what a lot on here have yet to understand. There are a number of peple here who will just as readily troll off the board as well as on it. To them it's all a big laugh.

FRankly I don't understand it. Ok, we know the Red Room and what it's like. We know the insult culture, etc. But there are sick fucks on this website that actually want to fuck with people's lives and make them feel miserable. I just wonder why? Have these people nothing better to do with their lives? Is it an addiction?

If it was Faceman, then he can fuck off!
If it wasn't Faceman, that doesn't change that he's still Faceman, so I guess that's punishment enough in it's own right.

People are looking at this in the wrong way. I won't speculate on TamarB's motivation, but in essence all that person did across advertise Wordforge in the Elemental album cover discussion. Maybe we can get a few new members through this type of guerilla marketing. It's certainly not illegal, probably not harmful, and might even be a good thing. Regardless, it's probably best ignored -- everybody keep voting!

There is nothing illegal in playing dirty games, and we can't ban anyone until there's absolute proof.

As much as I hate Faceman, we can't go willy-nilly banning the first person that comes to mind.

#13 looks like it was drawn by a 6th grader. What's up with the torso being lopsided from the legs? And the uneven knees as well as the scabs on the professor's shins...?

Yeah, but she seems like a very sweet girl, and the poor thing's art was posted two days late. She has a concept of space, and a decent perspective of proportion. She doesn't even have a scanner. It looks like she took a picture of it in her sketchbook and posted it.

I remember being there, so I can definitely empathize with that situation.

Most of the other entries look as if they were drawn by children, IMO. Vlad's and #8 are the only two worthy of consideration. I honestly don't see anything appealing about #7, even though several other folks have mentioned liking it. YMMV, I guess.

I can't believe it didn't strike me before. But if I win this thing, I'm throwing a tea party at the park. It's a shame none of you are terribly close to Indy, I wish I could do something to show my gratitude.
