:chris: I've never actually heard of taggants, which I guess can be attributed to the succesful lobbying efforts of the NRA and others.

Gunforge will be along any minute now to explain why taggants are discriminatory against legal gun owners.

Well... no. Why do you think they look out for themselves? Nobody else is volunteering.

Olfactory hallucinations may be indicative of anything from schizophrenia to meningioma. No wonder you're incapable of explaining why taggants are discriminatory against legal gun owners. You should see a doctor.

You didn't post the part about how the police and military won't allow it in their ammo. Perhaps Armyforge can chime in.

I actually thought it was very silly that this article was citing an online BBS. I'd probably laugh if someone at Wordforge were cited about one of the latest hot topics.

On the other hand, it's far more probable that it's an indicator that you have an unwashed crotch.

If you make your own bomb, then its not a big step to make your own explosive to go in it. Its pointless and everyone with a brain knows it.

Of course it's not discriminatory. The government should have unlimited powers to monitor our every activity. It's for the children. To keep us all safe. For our own good.

Reality doesn't matter so much to them as fighting the delusions which exist only in their own minds even if that means causing real harm in the world.

Y'know, you should have realized, particularly at this juncture, that that shit doesn't work. Time to adjust your tactics, don'tcha think?

I'm glad that at least one member of Gunforge agrees with the inclusion of taggants in gunpowder.

Thank you, Volpone. When Lanzman gets back, tell him the very fact that no one here can provide a rational answer is all the answer needed.

    (A) I'm not in the military, so I can't answer your question, and
    (B) I asked mine first

My question would answer yours. Why should private citizens be exposed to more risk than the police and military?

The reason NRA and the explosives industry oppose taggants is that they destabilize explosives. The reason there isn't research into making taggants safe for use is that the primary user of explosives in the US gov't, the Military, refuses to fund research into taggants as they have neither use nor desire for such things(And would in fact require makers to supply taggant free explosives and powder for all acquisitions)

The better question to ask is: why was the NRA intent on blocking studies into the relative safety of these taggants?

And the very best question to ask is, why are you basing these questions on second-hand reporting that started in a place with no better fact-checking record than Wordforge itself, relayed by an admittedly hyperpartisan left-wing "news-u-tainment" outlet?

Do better. Or I'll come to your house, drag you out into your yard and kick your fucking ass. With a fish.

    Shut up, apostle. :borg:

I'm not even going to go into the difference between monitoring explosives and monitoring "our every activity," because it's obvious to anyone that's not a special brand of stupid or paranoid.

If they can come up with a safe version, it's a decent idea.

I know, I know...congress refused to pay for it. But nothing is stopping some company or private individual from funding research into it.

    As is?

What, this shit isn't dangerous enough without introducing destabilizing elements to the mix?

    Really?

It's almost as if lives are not the primary concern here.

I love how you're taking Bear at his word here, then running with that excuse to justify abandoning the whole thing.

And don't try "some private investor should do it," there's no voluntary market among manufacturers for an additive that does nothing but lead criminal investigators to your doorstep.
