Let the speculation begin. http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/doctorwho/articles/Matt-Smith-to-leave-Doctor-Who
I've been reading the replies to this thread: http://io9.com/farewell-eleven-matt-smith-is-leaving-doctor-who-510860053 And there are a lot of guys I never heard of (not being familiar with the intricacies of the Brit TV/Film industry) and several more that I'd love to see play the part but who'd be far too big and expensive for the role. But the one that really jumped out at me, given those limitations, was this guy: I mean, in a perfect world I'd discover a guy who could channel the Tom Baker vibe (without directly aping him) with just a twinge of smart-ass to spice it up...but I don't know who that guy is and Cusak could absolutely come up with a fun take on the character i think.
He was amazing in Dead Like Me. Definitely think he could carry the character having shown quite a range in the past.
I agree with Dan that an older Doctor would be a good change of pace. When I saw Hurt as the upcoming "Doctor" I thought, yes, that's it. A Hugh Laurie, or even a Mark Addy. I'm sure Britain is full of distinguished gentlemen of a certain age.
If Eccleston/Tennant/Smith are the pattern that will be followed it will likely be someone completely off the radar as a potential pick. My dream pick would be Hugh Laurie, but since he's really successful now that wouldn't work.
Its time for a historic black Dr. Who. I'll take either the serenity operative or the guy who plays Luther.
Actually who I'd really like ( and he does have the connections) but is Faaaaaarrr too famous now. Benedict Cumberbatch
Well, if you want to skew older to get back with tradition, why not for shits and giggles...Rowan Atkinson?
I could swear I saw him in a dramatic role where it took me several minutes to figure that it was him.
Well, he has of course played him in the past. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Who_and_the_Curse_of_Fatal_Death
Dunno how true it is but one of the commenter on io9 claimed the BBC was committed to staying under 40 in order to appeal to the target audience demographic... There are several guys out of that range who'd be really good.
saw a name last night and looked him up on youtube. A Brit (Irish, specifically) stand-up guy named Dylan Moran. Seemed to have the right "vibe" but no idea whether he has the acting chops to play the part.
Ejifor would be awesome but, one assumes, likely too expensive. Unless he just wants the part bad enough to make some compromises. ETA: [yt=Encouraging!]yHIJ4or1nCc[/yt]
Oh come on! The episode when Donna briefly become the Doctor/Donna showed that a female Doctor could be very interesting and add a new dimension to the show.
Yes. As long as it's not Catherine Tate. The woman is insufferable. Her tenure in the TARDIS almost made me stop watching.
Agreed to a point, although I enjoyed Amy & Rory, and Jenna Louise Coleman makes my man-parts all googly.
