There's at least one person on the planet that the 'flying spaghetti monster' example-joke worked on: ol' Herbie Garrison. Good company for some.

I always get a kick when I see devout antireligionists use 'flying spaghetti monster' as their sorta derisive proof there's no such thing as God. And they seem smug about it, like they've not considered that the joke's on them since Garrison is almost always depicted as the show's example of stupidity and ignorance in society. Good company?

For several years this has been amusing the hell out of me, almost feel bad to let it out now. Merry fuckin Christmas, hayters. :)

I follow a lot of the atheist/science/lefty blogs out there (big surprise!) but I absolutely refuse to go near Hemant Mehta's Friendly Atheist. That blog banner makes the eyes bleed. I don't know what kind of an attempt at a font that is, but it makes Comic Sans look like Times New Roman in comparison.

Why? The dicks here, in my mind, are the ones attempting to gain official endorsement of their personal religion of choice. Just using the law to allow other religions to also do the same thing doesn't seem even remotely dickish to me. Instead, the dickish move is the bastards who constantly attempt to subvert the powers of the state to attempt to force their religion over other people.

"Other religions?" Pastafarianism isn't a religion, it's a parody of religion. Nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't deserve the same accommodation when it comes to holiday displays.

As for the atheist display, I really don't see the point. Plenty of atheists celebrate Christmas anyway, and there's already a Christmas display. For atheists who don't celebrate Christmas, what is the display about? "Screw your stupid holiday"? Seems pretty dickish to me.

So who gets to decide what's a real religion and what isn't?

Those who practice said religion. Are there any Pastafarians who sincerely practice their faith, not just pretend to do so in order to mock the religious?

I would have no problem with that.

The funny thing is the evangelicals in Louisiana freaked the fuck out when they figured out their law about using tax money to fund religious schools would have to include Muslim schools. "But... I don't want my tax dollars going to fund religions I don't like!"

If a Muslim group wanted to put up a Muslim display in honor of some Muslim holiday, that would be fine with me, and it should be treated like any other holiday display.

I don't really have a problem with the other ones, I just don't think it should be required to accommodate parody displays, and I don't get what the atheist display is supposed to be celebrating.

If they fund Christian schools, they have to fund Muslim schools too. But not Pastafarian schools, because there are none and nobody really believes in it.

Prove it. Seriously, they put up a display and the only reason you can object is to claim their religious views are not as good as your's. That makes you a dick not them.

Their religious views are just as good as anyone else's. What are they again? Religious people should be mocked? And that deserves the same accommodation as an actual holiday display?

Is this the one with the big red A? The linked page isn't loading for me for some reason, I'll check it out later.

No, it's just a sign talking about all the secular aspects of Xmas (friends, family, gift giving, meals, fire, etc) which is why I found your comment on the atheist displays, about how there were many non-religious aspects to Xmas to not make sense.

When shitbag religious people are arrogant enough, like you are, to claim their personal religious views are better than other people's then you fucking bet you shitbags are worth being mocked. Arrogant prick attempting to claim you're the personal gate keeper over whither other people's relgious views are valid or not. Seriously, fuck you.

Hmm, not seeing Quest doing what you claim there, Dinner. He's asking some fairly legitimate questions regarding what it is that we're achieving in these displays.
