What ever else their failings they at least are smart enough to praise the red box D&D basic set. That's the one which got me into D&D when I was a wee little kid.

The only question I have is the one in the blue hat really a girl or is that guy just cross dressing?

Go to TNZ and talk bad about Obama and see how it goes.

I've been a member of TNZ for almost 11 years. That said, talking bad about Obama won't cause any problems among the vast majority of TNZers. It's when you start being a twit, that's when people notice. Complaining about privacy, taxes, drones, and other stuff like that, will engender discussion. Start bringing up socialism, death panels, or "teh Muslim Obama Agenda!", and people there will figure out real quickly that you're likely full of shit.

One of the patterns as this board has -- dare I say it -- matured, has been a disappearance of "fun" stuff. Stuff that doesn't revolve around plunking down words that discuss politics or movies or whatever. 80% of the reputation features, the bloated quotations thing, the arcade, Black Nova Traders and the Dragon thing before that, even the calendar, even the "reason for editing" line. All these widgets and games are gone, for good or ill, and all that's left at the board is the board itself and the people inhabiting it, plus the Blue Room taps into a different part of the brain too. Three features here, if you like: Discussion, hanging out, and catching up on friends' lives. That's nice, but there used to be a lot more.

I'm not saying that if you install an arcade, suddenly new members and old will spring out of the woodwork. Most of those things I listed went away in large part because they weren't being used much, or at least not used visibly enough to be retained. I'm just noting a trend. You can be all lofty and say -- to borrow a phrase -- that the board is being winnowed down to its essential purpose, but if there aren't other things to sustain the habit of visiting when you don't feel like engaging that essential purpose, well, maybe that contributes to a dwindling population. And anyway that sounds too utilitarian and adult for my liking. :bailey:

Of course, the other points others have made are more important: Younger people don't use forums except for specific purposes, i.e. a particular fandom or popular website they're tied to.

Maybe we should start a Bronie sub-forum to attract more than the two Bronies we have now. Thoughts?

I'm not saying I'd dance around my living room, but I wouldn't want to be trying to sleep in the apartment below mine, if you know what I'm sayin'.

Agreed. The old rep system and the arcade made the site a lot more fun. Also, wordforge only works with firefox for me and I absolutely hate this browser, so I rarely bother to post anymore.

I use IE. Other xenforo boards work fine for me. it's just wordforge that apparently hates IE, and only on my computer. I can post from school with any browser. John worked really hard to get me to be able to post at all, so I just accepted that it was firefox or bust.

If John already tried everything, I guess it's not worth going over it all again, but that kind fo thing really bugs me. I mean, it has to be some plug-in to IE you only have at home, right? What else could it be?

What? The old rep system was just dumb. I'm ok with bringing the arcade back though.

That smackdown you got for calling shootER a racist was pretty epic, though.

For that alone, we never should've got rid of it. :techman:

I disagree. Having positive and negative rep was a fun game, but not necessary. Comments were an extremely useful feature and way more of a loss, imo.

Okay, so y'all went from the subject of kissin' girls, to Larry brings up usin' some tongue... and follows that up with smileys... Of. The. Ass.

Not tryin' to tell you your business, bub, but the girl tastes better if you turn her around and kiss her on the lips. Either set of lips.
