Cute. But you blow it. This is about illegal international arms trafficking to support organized crime and terrorist groups, political corruption, cronyism. The only way that this is about the rights of private, law abiding, citizens to own firearms is that this Pol wanted to ban people from that while lining his own pockets by supplying criminals with small arms, machine guns, rockets, and missiles

Not sure it has everything. Walker got away with effecting a contentious change in labor relations, did this guy do something momentous? Every week a corrupt politician is arrested. It's news, but it's not a paradigm shift affecting millions. Not much to see here, really.

Maybe the media in Florida sucks. Here's a screen shot of what comes up on Bing when I search for this -- note the prominent placement of multiple mainstream sources:

Did you even look at the results you just found. Of the three mail listing only the Huffpo post is from a non firearms related site. Of the three news articles posted only the Sacramento source could count but they've always had a pulse on the 2nd A The CNNi Report? That's only a call for CNN to report on an issue in fact CNN got ripped last night for ignoring this story. Like I said, Media bias circling the wagons

    A) it demonstrates that it is inaccurate to claim it's not being covered.
    B) corrupt politician gets arrested is about as common place as dog bites man. The media isn't going to jump on something like this because it's too routine.
    C) :finger:

I ended my opening post with a throwaway joke about Big Trouble In Little China. That's the tone I was going for. But she can only respond with "GUNLUBBERS!! VOLPONE!! BLERGG!!!" She has yet to condemn the guy to my knowledge, the irony of Yee isn't lost on her, she's just disappointed that it hurts "her side" at the end of the day. She'll continue to not contribute, and wonder why people don't take her seriously. That's the sting in the end, I mean look at her avatar and signature.

It's also not like there are a lot of complicated developments in the story. He was arrested. Here are the charges. Ok, now a suspension from the Senate. Eventually a trial and expulsion. But except for the various landmark moments, what's the point of continued coverage? Do we really need a "Corrupt Politician Still Indicted" headline every day for every politician under indictment?

Smuggling arms to Muslim terrorists is routine? This guy was a one man Iran/Contra. I know you like to argue, but you know damn well this has all the salicious details that are made for 24 hour news. We'll see how the media covers his trial to be sure.

As for how to cover it, how about some more context on the criminal elements, who the terrorists are (MILF, I kid you not) how about some history regarding his push for more gun control, statements he's made, etc? This isn't hard.

Instead we get airplanes flying into mini black holes.

I said the media was being mute or burying the story. Please point out where I said it wasn't being covered at all

As I said above, this is about much more than just "another corrupt politician" story. It is not routine. If anything this is like something out of some hack writers mind. Hell this could be the plot to any cheesy 80s action movie. Do you disagree with that?

He'll do his prison time at Club Fed minimum security most likely. Maybe he'll knock a golf ball over the fence and somebody can keep it as a souvinier.

I think the media has presented the available facts. What more are they supposed to do? Yes, it's ironic, but it doesn't fundamentally change our society, and it doesn't have the OMG 200 people might have died drama, so why would there be any further reporting than "just the facts," for us to consider?

Liar. Never heard of him until the story broke. There's another criterion for you: If you want me to take a stand on stories like this, stop Making Shit Up.

He is a coward who can't address her but has to talk around her. And he wonders why she doesn't take him seriously.

:yays: Let's make this another thread about garamet...

When a California gun law is passed, it can fundamentally change the gun industry, because of the size of the market. That has ramifications for gun owners nation wide. Pols like Yee, who are never on my ballot, end up affecting people like frontline or myself. So when an acknowledged leader in the push for more gun control in California is found to be actually smuggling weapons to terrorists, something 99.99% of law abiding gun owners would never do, that should be big news. 60 Minutes type stuff. If anything, take the opportunity to show us there's no bias. Go overboard, undermine the critics!

So where have I made something up? Weren't you the one who pulled the gunlubber routine, which was totally off track from the article. Oh yeah you were. You couldn't even be bothered to say, like Gul, that the media was all over this in depth.

You are talking about special interests in my opinion. That said, what impact does his arrest have on gun control? Because I don't see one, which is why I am mystified that you think this deserves more coverage than "this happened."

I dunno man, this might not be a big deal if it were Mexico but when you have a public servant in America attempting to run guns (a Democrat running for California Sec of State to boot), that could potentially wind up in the hands of terrorists - that's a pretty big deal. Did you read the affidavit? There's some shady motherfuckers named in there with the Senator.

I can't really comment on the media bias as I tuned American media out some time ago due to the fact it's a joke.

Garamet continues to be a disgrace I see, while insisting she isn't. You can set your watch to that.

Flow already touched on this. He's just been shown to be a huge hypocrite. Not surprising for a Pol bit for the issue. Let's put in another context. Anti pot Pol is busted for having his own factory dedicated to making weed. In the end is undermines the selective "freedom for me but not for thee" crowd.

Because the NRA did its little victory dance and you guys have already convicted him.

    If he's acquitted you'll decide "MEDIA BIAS!!11!!"

I wouldn't be surprised if 60 Minutes ends up doing something on this story eventually. They work well ahead and go more in depth than the cable people do.

I doubt he will be acquitted. The FBI in these types of cases almost always has enough evidence to bury those they arrest in guilty verdicts.

I'd say his best bet to avoid prison or a long jail term is to squeal like a pig and then go into witness protection.

Considering that his attorney is starting to sing the "entrapment" tune that normally one hell of an indicator that the feds have him nailed. However something could come up to exonerate him. So I'll wait for the trial.
