One more thing. There's never going to be a universal standard about bannings. Banning is not something we normally do, it defies codification. We've banned a net -3 people in 18 months. There is no need or possibility for setting up rules for something that statistically doesn't happen.

Why bring him into this discussion at all, then? Your contention seems to be that Castle's previous banning was unjustified because he was goaded into saying something bannable, yet others of us who do similar things aren't threatened with bannings, and Dayton is particularly heinous, so if you're going to ban Castle this time, for (barely) breaching the rules, you ought to ban Dayton as well.

For the comparisons to be valid, they have to be at least roughly equal. They're not. Of all the posters you've mentioned, Castle is the only one who added nothing to the boards. Sure, Face and WAB often do post things merely to stir the shit, but not always, and even they have sense enough to back away from a subject without spewing post after post of incoherent word salads, when they recognize that the tide's against them. And everybody "pokes" other posters in order to rile someone up from time to time, so that's hardly justification for advocating that people be banned for it. Unless someone can demonstrate that a particular poster has a habit of doing that routinely and doesn't contribute anything meaningful to the boards, in which case, a banning is probably justified.
