You dumbass! The guy who threw the punch said he did it because the protester might have been in ISIS. The comments in this thread are informed by what actually happened.

You don't see this type of stuff happening at a Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio rally.

Why is that? Is Donald Trump attracting the most sociopathic and hateful people in this country to his cause?

I am far more alarmed by Trump supporters than I am of Trump. He is an opportunist and is simply pandering to his audience.

But his followers represent the worst dregs of American society... uneducated and racist trash.

These people have always been around but Trump is unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) exposing them for all the world to see.

I hope they don't represent the vast majority of Americans but I guess we will find out in the general election.

You see this kind of crap every where. The media just doesn't always cover it and that is what leads to the claims of bias.

Oh, and it was not just a few fights at Chicago. I watched the news reports again this morning and you had roving mobs ripping up signs and threatening people along with flashes of outright violence with police trying to break it up. You had mobs trying to block roads and ignoring lawful police orders pertaining to public safety.

It was a disgusting event and the stench of bull shit comes off the posts of the people who tried to make a mountain out of the actions of a single old man in a crowd of thousands yet attempt to excuse an actual riot by thousands on the other side. Look in the mirror people.

5 arrests. That's it. Some riot. :dayton:

People have the right to protest Trump. Yes, tensions are high, and when protesters confront Trump supporters there's a good chance for things to get out of hand. Both sides probably need to ease back on the rhetoric. That is not accomplished by portraying Trump as a martyr to sign-ripping terrorists. :drama:

Dinner is cribbing off of Trump's own talking points. The interview he gave CNN last night had an uncanny resemblance to the things Dinner is saying. I already called it, but it is quite obvious that Dinner is a Trump supporter. He's the only one at Wordforge, but then every group has its dipshit.

That there were so few arrests just talks about how ineffective the Chicago PD has become. Especially when you see people form blockades in city streets to block police cars or the videos of supposed protesters attackong people.

Oh, and Gul, stop huffing paint thinner.

On the media bias tip: don't ask me for a link because I didn't save it, since I was laughing uncontrollably. Anyway somebody was giving an account of the Trump chaos and said "black man" several times concerning the Chicago cops actually...you know....doing their job when they had to control a dude who happened to be black. Sorry kid, but if you want to put a spin on anything you have to be a little more subtle. The phrasing almost sounded like the reporter's first language was not English.

Always so pleasant to hear from you. We can start with that, your need to trash talk anybody with whom you disagree. Then we can add in your racism, your anti-immigrant hysteria, your claims that Trump is not stirring the pot with his rhetoric. All of this is obvious to everybody else. Your pattern of late is of both a style and substance that would make Trump proud. You can pretend otherwise, but despite your claims to be a Sanders supporter, your rhetoric tells a different story. As I said, every group has its dipshit, you just happen to play that role here at Wordforge.

    That's really the bottom line.

Dinner has always been hatefully bigoted toward people who don't share his specific point of view.

Sad, really, because some of my best friends (both here and IRL) are people who I disagree with on a variety of topics.

Wait... I am supposed to just take his trash talking and lies (see his lies about Trump talking points) and not respond? Or maybe derision is what his lies deserve so I give him that?

If he wants a higher tone then I am willing to do that if he stops his nonsense as well. @gul

"moderates" do not find Trumps bullshit appealing. The protesters, and those of us who are sane enough to call bullshit on Trump, may very well inflance the racists, the no-nothings, and the the terminally gullible to be even more passionately committed to vote for Trump, but the marginal gain in the NUMBER of such voters is far from enough to swing the general. If he is going to have enough supporters to win in November, he has them already - no one is still on the fence about him.

Not per se, that's what I'm trying to figure out. You seem in this thread at least open to the possibility of supporting him. Which despite his moderate positions on some issues, seems a rather immoderate decision.

Actually, whither he wins or not in the general election will depend upon mainly upon women and blue collar dems/independents. He will have the hardest time with women.

    http://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2...lling-best-among-liberal-and-modera/?page=all

Granted it is the Moonie paper but the poll they are talking about is by PEW. Trump does best with moderate Republicans and independents and has strong pull among blue collar dems. He does worst with liberals, women, and minorities but do not underestimate the emotional pull of being against current trade treaties and currency manipulation has among cross over voters. Remember that Bernie is also campaigning on that issue as well.

That is one of the reasons Bernie beata Trump by a wider margin that Hillary does because he takes that appealing issue away. If Hillary is the nominee then were do the Bernie or bust people go?

if you think this is a reaction to "one old man" you need to step away from this thread while you catch up on a couple of months worth of news.

I recognize that you're trying to whitewash the steady stream of bullshit flowing from the Trump campaign and those who march to that drumbeat, but I'm just responding to the words you typed, no matter how disingenuous.

There's a longstanding meme in this country which goes like this:

X: "I don't like those Z people, they are the source of all our problems"
Z: "that remark is obviously bigoted."
X: "the fact that you are trying to silence my opinion makes you the bigot, not me"
Z: *banging head* "that's not what 'bigotry' means"

What's going on here is simply that, taken to the next level-

Trump: "we should stop all these people we don't like!"
People Trump doesn't like: "We object to you accusing us!"
Trump: "throw those objecting people we don't like out of the building!"
PTDL: "You are not going to silence us!"
Trump: "Look at those people we don't like trying to silence us! I TOLD you we had to stop them!!"

Same tune, same theme, just slightly jacked up lyrics.

As much as it pains me to quote her (given that it give you a chance to hand-wave the truth of this away) this is spot on:

People would rather the Earth be torn apart into chunks in front of their eyes by a giant than admit they're the source of their own undoing.

Trumps not evil - that's Cruz if anyone - but he's a very base opportunist at the best reading, willing to enable and encourage the worst instincts of the most hateful for political advantage.

Basically, he's an unsubtle manifestation of the subtle strategy of the GOP for the last 40 years or so. They sowed the wind and Trump is the whirlwind.

I went to see Marco Rubio in Oklahoma city.
In order to get in, you had to register online.

Everyone in the crowd was very nice.
The candidate presented the conservative agenda, in a very positive manner.

I always figured it took two to tango and the protesters swinging, tearing up signs, trying to prevent others from speaking, flipping people off, etc... Are certainly trying to gin up a bit of violence and bigotry of their own.

The hypocrisy of trying to pretend everything is the other guys fault and that your (a generic your not you personally) shit doesn't stink is the part I find most objectionable. It is very much a case of "I object to your incendiary rhetoric" said the guy spouting incendiary rhetoric.

Now, I am not white washing anything (as you claimed) nor voting for Trump but I do see the other side where the guls of the world call everyone else violent Nazis yet ignore the violent thugs on his own side. We saw them on the streets of Chicago last night.

He is down in the polls enough that protesters don't seem to care about him. Moveon.org is daily spamming my inbox about Trump and asking for donations. BTW their emails call for the other side's events to be disrupted so they cannot apeak and I do find that objectionable as I hold the old Voltaire idea that I may disagree completely with another person but will fight to thw death for their right to say it.

This prevent people you disagree with from speaking thing needs to go and I would like it alot if we returned to the old defeat the other guy's argument and thus win over people to your side approach.
