I do not for a second dispute that in almost every conflict, legitimate protests are undermined by more inflammatory behavior and it is always best to take the high moral ground while it's almost always true some hotheads drag the protest down to a baser level.

It's certainly true that a handful of the protesters last night behaved badly and thereby tarnished an event attended by far more people who did nothing more ill-mannered than raise their voices...

    HOWEVER

given the repeated instances of peaceful protesters being manhandled at Trump events...and given Trumps repeated gleeful encouragement of such ...and given his rhetoric specifically targeting pretty much any and all non-white group as the source of all the "real" Americans problems...

It is entirely understandable that his provocation of anger among his supporters would engender anger in response. The great majority of center-left Americans have no truck with Cruz's policies either, but where are these conflicts at Cruz events? They don't happen. It is completely irrational to imply Trump and his supporters have not incited this very reaction, and one need look no further than a Twitter search for, say, #TrumpRally or #TrumpChicago to see those same brain-dead followers telling themselves and each other that the Chicago conflict simply proves they were right all along.

It is a VERY dangerous thing going on. Cruz is a more dangerous potential president, by far, than Trump - but Trump's is a vastly more dangerous campaign.

There's also the issue that Trump might be Bernie's inner self, except for the socialist nonsense. Trump's butler of 20 years says Trump is one of the nicest people there is, and gives money to all kinds of people in need. That would be Trump showing why he was a Democrat for so long. But in his time in business and in New York, he learned that if attacked he should hit back ten times harder.

The other odd thing about Trump's exit polling is that he wins in virtually ALL groups. His supporters can't be pigeonholed, other than they're anti-establishment, anti-elitists, and very pro-American.

Have you been to a Cruz event? It's probably a crowd right out of "Children of the Corn."

You're turning into an exact copy of Jenee at this point......

At the top of the stairs he turned around and moved back towards the stairs.

He was stopped from getting physical with anyone by the police before he had a chance to get physical.

You're probably being dumb like her and watching edited tapes. The news has been editing out the part where he turns around and moves back towards the stairs.

And the woman explains her Nazi salute in the New York Times

She was born in West Germany in 1946 and was explaining to some morons comparing Trump to Hitler that they had no idea what a real Nazi salute looked like and no idea about who Hitler really was.

Mr. Peterson said the couple was upset by the accusations. “It’s insulting for anyone to assume that we have anything to do with Nazis,” he said. “We have never done anything other than demonstrate to a bunch of idiots that when they talk about Nazism, they better learn about it first.”

I find that is very common. Hitler would have Sanders' supporters swooning.

moving in a different direction is not "getting physical"

I maintain a trained peace officer, let alone several of them, should be easily able to re-direct that impulse.

I don't doubt that, but I don't think it counters my claim. Cruz's crowd is the exact same folks, with the exact same motivations, and the exact same level of passion, which has driven about a quarter to a third of the GOP primary voting/organizing population for 30 years.

They did numbnuts. And when the protester didn't immediately turn back he was taken to the ground.

He wasn't hurt. He's not sitting in a jail cell. It's nowhere as bad as you're making it out to be.

The one thing I will say the cops did wrong is they didn't immediately escort the old man out and then arrest him. That should have been done on the spot.

I'm not. I just don't see him as some great evil any more than I did Obama and my reaction to the fearmongering is the same now as it was back then.

That's your take on it. My take is that it isn't so much that moderates that are going to vote for him aren't going to be voting for him so much as voting against whoever the "progressive" side puts up. Because even though so many people are tired of the two main choices being put up, the majority refuses to take a third option and instead tries to keep playing the same game every election.

It is a little unfair to compare a campaign slogan to something that is nothing remotely like anyone's campaign slogan. In fact, I'd call that as dishonest as the right wing chain emails my brother in law keeps sending everyone where they misattribute all manner of nonsense to Obama. I think what we need is more honesty in our political discussions and less baseless spin and misinformation.

It's not a comparison of slogans, but the overall tone of the campaign and the motivations of supporters. Not to mention that it's the same species of fear mongering that led to both the anti-Obama hysteria and the rise of Trump.

How is your statement any leas hyperbolic than Tuttle saying the other side is mentally ill or stupid or Gul constantly saying everyone he doesn't like is a Nazi? It seems to be the flip side of the same coin to me. "My side is great but the other guy is evil."

I do agree that the irrational hatred and slander of Obama caused the Republican base to go crazy but dems seem to also be drawning from the same well. This is why I have been voting third party; they're both pissing me off.

Showing your ass once again. I call people I don't like idiots. If they happen to be a NAZI, then I won't shy from mentioning that, either. You, for example, I will call an idiot, and a racist, because you are both. Captain X, on the other hand, doesn't get labelled as a racist, because he isn't one. I don't believe I've ever called either one of you NAZIs, however. And though you like to claim it with your Goodwin accusations, I've never called Trump a NAZI, either.

You also have to keep in mind the side he's appealing to. ;) Though, from my understanding, his appeal to those on the right is very much based on the idea that he's going to be different from the status quo. I doubt he will be, either, but whatever.

I also tend to say that Bernie Sanders is like the left's version of Ron Paul, but this isn't so much based on their politics so much as the appeal their campaigns have had within their parties and people who are otherwise on the fence. Also, it seems, with the way the media has been treating him, though I don't think they've been ignoring him nearly as badly as the media did to Ron Paul in the last election.

Very true, but not the same thing as being influenced by these protests to suddenly support him. Grudgingly voting for the "lesser of 2 evils" is something else.

So, it turns out to the surprise of no one at all sensible that there was a pretty large and detailed but peaceful protest planned for the Chicago Trump rally, that the police definitively did not identify any associated security concerns or recommend canceling the rally, and that things were absolutely peaceful until the abrupt announcement of the cancellation, at which point the crowd turned on the protesters who were easily identifiable by their 1) pigmentation, and 2) cheering the cancellation. It looks like the protesters were spotted by the campaign and, rather than dealing with a protest, the event was cancelled.

Yes, had heard some of that. I honestly wonder whether the cancellation was designed to instigate violence. Not quite false flag, but definitely underhanded.

    You nailed it, X.

Democrat Obama's divisive demagoguing about teh evilz bankers, richers, and 1 percenters, the cause and source of all your pains class-warriors, is indistinguishable from Democrat Trump's protectionist anti-muslim fear mongering that strikes at the core blue-collar america blaming others for their ills (favor trade barriers and anti-immigration).

Hate works quite well in politics for the Obamas and the Trumps.

In fact, the people most panties-in-a-wad over Trump are so very wrong about so very much it almost makes Trump a sure-fire path to a turnaround in the U.S. - it'll be nearly impossible to be worse than Obama, Obamacare which should never have been, would be finally removed from sucking the lifeblood from Amercia's neck, and a main-stream politician congress will ever be the check on Trump excesses. [i.e. even if he tries the Obama bullshit of ramming a rancid cock of destructiveness down voters' throats, Congress won't let him]

And he's part of the lying-politician class of the decades-long Democrat. He just recently changed his stripes because his brand of hate targets a different segment than Obama's hate; so, packaging.

Most recently Trump is against ACA and promised to repeal it. :shrug :

    quote:
Since March of 2010, the American people have had to suffer under the incredible economic burden of the Affordable Care Act—Obamacare. This legislation, passed by totally partisan votes in the House and Senate and signed into law by the most divisive and partisan President in American history, has tragically ...

But none of these positive reforms can be accomplished without Obamacare repeal. On day one of the Trump Administration, we will ask Congress to immediately deliver a full repeal of Obamacare.
