Explain to me how I'm "trolling" in the BSG review thread. I'd love to hear an explanation that's not "you're upsetting Federal Farmer with your admittedly on-topic comments about Battlestar Galactica." I'll wait.
The decisions of the admins, over who might have their feelings hurt, have been getting very bizarre lately.
What if I want to ask whether or not Dr. Cottle treats civilians for free? Is that now trolling because FF has strong feelings about Obamacare?
http://wordforge.net/index.php?threads/nubsg-frackin-review-thread.110454/page-2 Near the bottom. I'm trying to discuss the recasting of Adama as a Mexican, which you'd think would be relevant and topical line of discussion given the recent controversy over a similar recasting in the upcoming Spiderman movie, but three different admins express their displeasure with me bringing up the topic and accuse me of trolling.
It sure seems like a joke. Who exactly am I supposed to be "trolling" there? Everyone? A group of posters? One poster? Maybe I don't like it when people in MC talk about space battles. Maybe I find the discussion of violence to be triggering. Will you get everyone to stop if I complain? Is that a reasonable accommodation?
"There's a kingdom called Passiva Aggressiva, and you are it's queen"* Just shut the fuck up. We've long gone past the asshole limit in MC... *<Shamelessly lifterd from an epidose of Grey's Anatomy>
That feels like a flame, but I'm not going to report it. Because I'm so chill, you see. Regardless, you still haven't explained why it's trolling to ask about the casting choices of a television series. There's a thread in MC about black Mary Jane, and a thread where the lady Ghostbusters are discussed as well. But talking about Mexican Adama is trolling? Come on.
While I admit a Mexican in a position of power is unlikely even for a science fiction series my main concern was the demasculinization of the show when they cast a female to be Starbuck. Perhaps 14th Doctor would stop trolling MC long enough so the adults can discuss the more serious issues with nuBSG.
FWIW, when I posted about the Spider-Man thing, I thought it'd get ten posts that were mostly consist of "Yeah, I'd hit it," and most of us would laugh about everyone having a shit fit over cast before it'd sink to the bottom of the page one by next week and be forgotten about. I should've expected less. But no, the expressed purpose of that thread wasn't to discuss race politics or troll anyone who thought it was a bad idea.
Threads go in weird and unexpected directions here. That's part of the fun. How many different tangents did the TNG and VOY review threads have? So long as we're not calling each other pedophiles or putting each others professions in quotes, where's the harm in discussing it as part of the overall review thread?
Remember that terrible Black Market episode with Lee and his prostitute girlfriend? At the end there you can see a bunch of children caged up. The black market was selling children. Probably not for food.
The so called flame is nonsense. It was a lighthearted joke FFS. What the hell happened to the claims of the mods that the believe in light handed and common sense modding out of the RR?
It does, but there also seems to be a ridiculously low bar for what passes for "the shit." And that's the problem.
Three verbals, for discussing BSG in a BSG review thread. And I'm not so much pissed as I am annoyed. I get that poo flinging was getting out of hand in MC, but is the solution really to tell people what aspects of a tv show they're not allowed to discuss?
On that note... I recommend reading the HD threads from the summer of 2007 to see what truly godawful moderation looks like.
