This is a racist ruling and it has no place in a civilized society. Creating different rules for people of different races. You don't cure racism with mode racism and instead you have to hold everypne accountble to the exact same standards not racially based standards.

Run from cops and that automatically should be probable cause and force should be used against those actively evading arrest. What ludicrous judicial activism.

Well, day two of robbing liquor stores for booze and looting color tvs for social justice is well under way with the usual suspects still trying to tap dance around and attempting to justify gross criminal misconduct. We can always count on some members to be reliably wronghere at WF.

    911: "911. What's your emergency?"

Citizen: "Oh, please help me. I've just been mugged and stabbed."

    911: "Okay, ma'am, what's your name?"

Citizen: "Joan, Joan Smith. Please help me."

911: "Where are you at, ma'am?"

Citizen: "I'm just north of the 7-11, around, uh, 5th Street and...Brewster, I think."

911: "Okay, ma'am, I'm sending officers and an ambulance to your location. Stay calm, okay?"

    Citizen: "Okay."

911: "Can you describe the person who mugged you?"

Citizen: "Yes. He was...a black man, tall, wearing a red hoodie and dark clothes."

911: "Ma'am, can you be more specific?"

    Citizen: "What?"

911: "Well, ma'am, that's not really enough for us to go on."

Citizen: "What do you mean? That's what he looked like!"

911: "That isn't enough for us to go on, ma'am."

Citizen: "Well, what else can I tell you about him?"

911: "Did he have any distinguishing tattoos? Was he wearing a nametag? Did he introduce himself or show you a driver's license or other ID?"

Citizen: "N-no! I told you, he was wearing a red hoodie and dark clothes!"

911: "The dark clothes: were they black, dark gray, or navy blue?"

Citizen: "I...I couldn't really tell. It's kind of dark here and the only light is from a streetlight."

911: "Sorry, ma'am, but there's not much for us to go on."

Citizen: "Oh, okay, well, the police officers just arrived."

911: "Okay, ma'am. You have a nice day." *click*

    Citizen: "Uh...thank you. Officers! Officers!"

Cop#1: "It's okay, ma'am, we're here. Ambulance is on the way."

Citizen: "Thank you. Please find the man who did this to me!"

Cop#1: "We'll try, ma'am. What did he look like?"

Citizen: "He was a black man. Tall, with a red hoodie and dark clothes."

Cop#1: (laughs) "Sorry, ma'am, that's just waaaay too non-specific. We'd have to round up every black guy in the city."

Cop#2: "Yeah, guys like that are all over the place. Heck, we passed one guy who was dressed like that on the way here. Remember that, Lou? He was over on 7th. Must've been out for a late night run. Man, was he booking!"

Cop#1: "Yep, I bet if we drove around for a few hours, we'd see another guy like that sooner or later."

Citizen: "That was him! That was him! The man who attacked me ran off toward 7th Street!"

    Cop#1: "It's a million-to-one shot, lady."

Citizen: "A million-to-one?!? But you saw him! He was running!"

Cop#2: "Hold on now, Miss. Running doesn't mean anything."

Citizen: "He was a black man like I said. He was dressed like I said. He was near here and going in the direction I said. And he was running. And this doesn't make you suspicious?!?"

    Cop#1: "Aw, ma'am...that'd be racist!"

A better sollution would be to simply shoot all looters on sight. That way you decrease both the crime rate and the welfare costs while the criminals quickly learn they have to go be criminals some where else.

Maybe Britforge can weigh in our your race relations here.

Obviously, your cops don't have guns as a tool, so even if minorities get arrested at higher rates that white Britons, they're still...you know...alive.

Are riots a thing that has ever happened over police brutality in your lifetimes?

The way I've heard it, Britain doesn't have a race relations problem so much as a class relations problem.

Oh, that is rich. Tell that to the Sikhs last week who were trying to kill people for the crime of interacial marriage. Or the Pakistanis who spent 20 years raping white girls by the hundreds but the police were to fearful to arrest them because the Pakistanis always cry racism and like to riot at the drop of a hat.

Yeah, the Brits are clean when it comes to racial uprisings.

Cough *mau mau uprising*, cough *boxer rebellion*, cough *bussa's rebellion*, cough *indian rebellion of mid 19th cent.*, cough cough *bambatha (zulu) uprisings* cough.

Historians, please help me out here because it's oh so hard to find an example of Brits dealing with race-related violence.

 Reminds me of when I lived in Colorado Springs. A jet crashed just before the end of runway during landing, killing everyone on board. :( The jet barely missed an apartment complex. Anyway one of the "saw the whole thing" witnesses said "I saw one of the pilots waving a red flag out the window to warn everyone!" Let's visualize this: "OH SHIT! We're going down in about ten seconds!
Quick, let's find something red and tear it up then tie it to a long stick of some type, then find a heavy object to break a window so we can wave this hastily made flag to warn everyone on the ground!"

That really wasn't the thrust of the ruling. The main point is that people do not need to talk to police or otherwise interact with them if they aren't under arrest, and refusal to interact is not in and of itself suspicious behavior. Where the point comes in about black men, is that they have reasonable suspicion of police motives. And that's clearly true. Your hero Chris Rock has had quite a bit to say about that.

Where it's racist is that it's one standard for blacks, another for everyone else, and the application of the standard is based on NOTHING other than the person's skin color. A white guy running is suspicious, a black guy, er, hmm, well, maybe not...

    Two things at play here:
    1. his brother was killed, so he's emotional and not thinking straight - who knows how any of us would act in his position?
    2. there are hundreds if not thousands of people (not emotionally invested in the shooting) who assumed the cop who shot him was white, and won't even bother checking any facts to the contrary. Those people have no excuse, and are looting stores as we speak. Some call them "hood rats" but the proper term is "disenfranchised youth". BTW all races can be hood rats. That said protesters have my full support, rioters can kiss my ass.

BTW it's about time for the "goal posts" to move:
    1. "so what if he had a gun and not a book? The cops still didn't have to shoot him!"
    2. "the cops could have just shot the gun out of his hand!"
    3. "the cops could just shoot him in the leg! They train for that expert precision shooting!"

I disagree completely. They pointed it out as a reason why somebody might run. The key issue is that people can run for whatever damn reason they want, and that protection extends to everybody. It is not a racist ruling just because they pointed out an example specifically relevant to the suspect in question.

The court cited racial disparities in policing as the reason blacks might run from cops. The same would not apply to whites because only guilty white people run from cops.

So what's the reason for running toward the cops? :chris:That's been a factor in the recent past lest we forget. True though about guilty whites - if you are white & run from the cops (or resist arrest or worse yet attack a cop) I have zero (I say again....zero) pity on you. If you are breaking the law and are caught......man up and deal with it or get shot - your choice.

The ruling doesn't give everyone carte blanche to run from the police. It gives a special carve-out to blacks that others don't have, namely, that their fear of being stopped is enough to justify their running, regardless of what subsequent investigation finds.

Expect every black suspect to run now.
